Just read that the car was pre-production (which was obvious) and that the fuel was ~half a tank. That's about 42lbs, which would be 2734lbs. If we assume ~half a tank could have been another gallon and a half lower, and bingo, you have your 2723.

Of course, since every car is measured with a full tank and fluids for the US Curb Weight using that number is completely worthless for comparison unless you go ahead and only put ~6 gallons of gas in whatever car you are comparing to and then throw it on some scales.

Or you could just use the curb weight.

2700lbs is light...the E30 which a 20yrld weights just as much.
