best tires to choose for a stretch DD
which tires should I choose for a DD, 225/40/18 ? Im trying to keep it under $150 per tire. Ill be stretched on a 9.5" wide wheel.

so basically compared to stock you're gonna add 2.5 inches of rim and less than half an inch of tire width. I feel bad for whatever tires you go with, they're gonna be more stretched than Octomom.

Does it matter what tire you get?
I mean no offense, but if you're going that stretchered then you obviously aren't going for performance. Go for the cheapest i'd say...

Lol you're gonna get flamed like crazy here for wanting stretched tires.
No worries. Federal SS595s are decent. They run a bit wider so they're a little more than a 235 in all reality. Still enough to get a small stretch. They aren't expensive at all either. Under $100/per. Just remember, there is no such thing as a magic tire. Don't expect to pay $90 for a tire and get the same level of performance as a $200 tire. To follow that, stretching in general will hinder performance but seeing as you're saying this is your DD, I doubt that performance is your #1 priority. For reference, I run 215/45 Federals on 17x9 Enkei's. There is a bit of stretch but, because they run a bit wide, there isn't that much at all. A 225/40 will give you a similar stretch on a 9.5j wheel. So long as you aren't ballistic amounts of camber and keep an eye on your tire pressure, you should be fine. SHOULD being the keyword. Tires were never designed to be stretched heavily so just know the risks involved with doing it. People constantly ask why people here stretch tires. The car was designed on crappy tires and setup to be a fun car. Low grip and something to have fun with. Some people prefer doing auto-x or time attack and designate that as fun. I like drifting. So, I still want to be able to slide the car around on all the different course layouts I drive on. The 17x9s give me the stance that I want and also allow for some flexibility. On stock power, I'm still using 215/45s. Down the line, when I add additional power, I can go to a wider tire without having to change to a wider wheel. Not everybody does it for that purpose, but I find it hilarious that a bunch of people here constantly rave about keeping the car n/a and keep it to its spirit when it was designed and how fun it is stock. Then those same people get to largest tires they can possibly fit. Then they hate and criticize the people who stay on smaller tires but go up in wheel size. A little stretch isn't bad. Too much of ANYTHING is bad. There's a limit. 225 is the smallest I would go on a 9.5j personally. I don't go into threads telling people their cars are too high or has shitty wheels with horrible offset or anything like that. Everybody who builds a car has a goal in mind. Some people want to shave every second possible off of their time at their local track. Some people want to slide the living daylight out of their car and smash into shit (me lol) and some people just wanna have some that's aesthetically pleasing the eye and don't necessarily care about a functional, track oriented setup(looks are 100% subjective). Obviously, this is a public forum, so people are always going to give their opinion. It's just something I can't help but notice because I always see some of the same usernames walking through threads like these talking down to anybody wanting to do something like stretching tires or driving really low etc etc. To answer your question, performance probably isn't really a key factor in your setup. I'm sure it matters, but Idk if it's at the TOP of your list. If it is, please correct me. Also, if it is, I would suggest a 235/40. You'll still have a little bit of stretch, like you want, but you'll have a bit more tire on the wheel which will help with grip and contact patch. Either way, decent, inexpensive tires to look at are: Federal SS595 Federal 595EVO Achilles ATR Sport Nexen N3000 I've ran all of the above tires stretched on wheels before and have never had an issue. I've run other tires too, but they're all more expensive (Toyo Proxes, Falken Azenis, Dunlop DZ101)

![]() Thanks everyone for the input , especially @ tylerlieberman for the details. Yeah the wheels would be 18x9.5 +30 after the 20mm conversion adapter. I want to run minimal camber as possible and not messing with fender works. Federal 595 seems like a good fit , I haven't seen federal 225/40 on a 9.5 but seen the 225/35 on a 9.5 , and I thought they run too thin ... With too much wheel lip left exposed . |
