Just my opinion.
You mean a 300zx?
(I'm not a nissan guy, so if there was a 300z, I don't know about it. Honest question.)

Yes, but most ppl know Z31 & Z32 series by 300Z. Just like older series (S30), most ppl don't even know 260z or 280zx existed. If they saw older Z, they think 240z or 280z.

Zs have been around for quite a while. I think of 280z, but like I said, I'm not really into datsun/nissan.

Lexus IS300 Second Car - Thoughts?

I bought my BRZ six months ago and I LOVE it - very happy with the purchase. That being said, I'm a bit protective of it - don't like leaving it parked outside over night, prefer to not run errands around town with it, and am not a fan of sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic in it burning out my clutch... So I'm in the market for a second car as a "knock-around" car.

I'm looking for an auto, something that can ideally sit four people, and that is reliable. I'd primarily use this as an around-town car and for camping/fishing. I've narrowed down the search to a 2001 - 2002 Lexus IS300, as I like the styling, it's reliable, RWD, and I could add some modifications (new wheels/cold air intake/etc).

Before I go out and drop $5500 on a used car, I wanted to get input from the forum- anyone out there own one? Any general consensus on the reliability of the car? Should I be looking at anything else?

Thanks!

On the old IS300, so long as you're happy with its size(its about the size of a Corolla back then, today's is bigger) they're a very solid and very reliable car. The only problems have heard was the CD player is apparently bad in that it eats CDs. The only other issue I can think of is...old age. In stock form, they don't seem to suffer any common issues. Due note though that even though the 2JZ-GE is a very durable motor, its also a pretty thirsty one too(90s 6-cylinder tech after all) making the BRZ seem like a Prius on that metric.

I was intending to buy one but I couldn't find a manual one...

I'd get one of these instead.

Mid engine
Supercharged
AWD
Plenty of room for shopping, errands, etc.
Toyota reliability

Honestly it's just a Lotus with a lot of room....

I had a 2002 is300 and plan on getting another in the future. Theyre damn reliable, smooth, quiet, luxurious and look awesome. Like mentioned, cd player isnt greatest. I replaced it with indash nav/dvd.

Would you say it's more equivalent to an Elise or Exige?
