I couldn't add many mods running SCCA auto-x Stock, but the LSD option made it a different car compared to my '00 and '01 Spyders that both (luckily) had pre-cats intact when sold. |

On the event of the brand's demise though, if Toyota feels the FR-S sells strongly enough it'll just be rebranded as the GT86 or even keep its FRS name. This has happened before with the Datsun brand going away for Nissan. The PT Cruiser was originally going to be a Plymouth but with that brand being mothballed it became the Chrysler PT Cruiser. No other company operates like GM where their brands have sway over the corporation with too much overlap causing problems when there are orphaned models. |

Also, did someone seriously compare the twins to a honda accord. Seriously. SERIOUSLY. If you're comparing it to a honda accord, leave now. You won't be happy with the twins. |

Any ideas on when the new model and updates would be officially announced? June this year? Auto show next year? I want to get a current gen after the drop in price.

If Tada is announcing it - and if they are stopping production of the 2014 - then it is highly likely it will show at NYAIS or Beijing auto show and be available in the fall, if not sooner. It might be just a facebook post, but it is guaranteed that this announcement was very carefully timed. I would expect to start seeing more pre-auto-show "leaks" and news over the next month.

Given Toyota's recent push to ensure it retains its image as a reliable, quality manufacturer they'd better be addressing the myriad of issues that have kept the twins off CR's recommended buy list. Fried injector seals, crappy side window sealing (frozen windows), easily damaged seatbelt guides, known sources of noise (e.g. that trunk weld), crickets, etc....
Other things needing immediate attention (in addition to the obvious power bump): -better HU/nav, no-rattle speakers -revised acoustic tuning for engine/exhaust to eliminate the bolts-in-a-blender engine note -better clutch: less abrupt take-up, lower engagement point -standard armrest/console tray cover (just make sure elbow does not bang into it when shifting like it does with the Fiesta ST) -standard or optional HID/LED package -rev-matching manual please! (unlikely, I know) -replace analog speedo with customizable LCD (oil temp, pressure, etc). |

In my opinion if they don't reassign Tada he will lead this platform to a premature death.

I don't know that it is statically significant but there are certainly more "my engine blew up" posts here and other Subaru forums than the Yaris Forum I visit. Over there you have :I drove 100k miles this year and only changed tires." Its worth mentioning that's all. I was a bit uneducated when I bought my FRS and didn't realize it was a Subaru. I was assuming Camry/Tc type engine reliability and it just doesn't have that. I mean it has a Scion badge which at the time was in the top 3 for reliability, now its last. All though am happy with it so far. Is it just bad luck, abuse, what is causing these major engine failures. I'm confident we will figure it out.

Will the FT86 suffer the same fate? Hopefully not... the FT86 is cheaper, gets better MPG, is prettier (subjective), and doesn't have a quirky engine (the 13B-MSP required too much attention for the masses). On the other hand, there are only so many people that appreciate small, relatively lightweight, RWD coupes. Wait, what?

The RX8 actually had an unreliable engine which drank oil (rotary). Not the case here.
Nothing unreliable here & the car is hitting sales projections in North America at least. If you think some major update or power boost is coming STILL after all the other rumors have been proven to be nothing but wishful thinking, then you must be smoking some really good stuff. These rumor threads really need to just die. On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.
