I have tried to but never spun out with trac control on even in rain. I would say your ECU will be looked at to see if they were or were not on. The impact protection is pretty good in these cars, and it will be obvious to your appraiser and the insurance company if you were speeding.

Yes equipment fails, and if this is a case of failure then everyone here wants and needs to hear about it.
Of course, in hindsight, I should have been going slower given the conditions. Speeding? Probably not, I was at--if not below--3k RPM in 3rd before I stepped on it so that's roughly ~30mph... pretty reasonable for our cars, no?

I may or may not make a case to bring up equipment failure, depending on the verdict. Will let you guys know

Downshifted to 3rd well before entering the ramp for engine braking, it's a habit of mine

You guys can't even drive in the rain out there in Cali...try a foot of snow!!

Happy to see nobody got hurt, though.

From the looks of it, there will be substantial damage done that we probably can't see. Good luck, though. Run it through insurance!

Oh god, I totally feel you. It just happened to me couple days ago, even though it was at lower speeds and I wasn't really trying to slide my end or anything. My air bag deployed as well. You can find the thread and the pictures on frs side of the forum. Sucks it happened, I know how it feels, but at least both of us came out of it easy.

Don't blame the systems - if you were already near the limit of grip due to the cornering, it really, really wouldn't take much to upset the back end. The traction control can't prevent everything, and once the tires have begun to slide, it doesn't matter what it does.

Welp. That's good and bad news. Sorry for your loss, but at least you can be comforted with the fact that you're not getting a car back that was severely damaged.

No, because I put a pretty decent amount down and was a couple months ahead on the loan payment. Still haven't gotten an offer from insurance yet so we'll see if I owe anything, but I'm preeeettty sure I won't

Hopefully you won't and you can just get a new car right away. Let us know how it goes. Kind of glad that it was totaled. Treat the new car like a princess

When you consider that a headlight alone is worth nearly a grand.. it's not that surprising.
