Good tires for daily/Autocross

Not that I'm disagreeing, but for a compromise tire with someone new to auto x I doubt he'll be overheating them.

All auto x I've been to strictly forbid pre-warming tires, so it's whatever heat you get in them during the run only.

Yes they grease too quickly and start to fall apart depending on the heat level is my experience with them, otherwise they are great street tires.

its sorta weird for me to compare the PSS with the RE-11a since the PSS is a max summer tire and not an an extreme.

PSS is more comparable to the Bridgestone S04 Pole Position IMO.

I haven't had the re-11as for long to comment on the tire life but if its anything like the previous RE-11 its probably around 15-20k depending on driving style. I've done 2 track events and an autocross and they seem to be wearing pretty evenly.

Mine lasted 10000km on the street plus ~15 (guessing) autocross events at 3-4 runs each.

That's not very long, I ran Direzzas on my much heavier 135i and those lasted 20000km and over 100 auto x runs including some drifting.

Ever think that our driving may be very different? Alignment? Stop and go Vs highway? Let me add, I am a driver who is TOO aggressive and I am slowly learning to calm down on course. Being a rookie may have had something to do with it :p Almost all of my kms were around town.

I went with Pilot Super Sport, great tire so far.

My concern wasn't just ultimate dry grip since this is also my DD, I needed something that worked just as well in the rain.

So far I'm very pleased with mine.

Not sure if most of you realize, but the rs3s are on crazy backorder right now and seems pretty impossible to get now

Regardless of your driving situation, 10000km and 60ish auto x runs is extremely low for a expensive street tire like that. I have run Direzzas side by side with PSS on the same type of vehicle with the same mods and found Direzzas hold up much better and last longer under anything other than daily driving, which is why me myself would not recommend someone PSS over Direzzas if there's more than daily driving involved.

I must say, you've damned near got me talked into trying a set of Direzzas for the upcoming summer. I can't see them actually lasting me that much longer, but every km counts. Did you find the Direzzas hardened at all over time?

I found my sets were nice and sticky right to the end, but the two major downsides compared to the PSS are more road noise and they are rock solid under 5 degrees Celsius, whereas the PSS seems a bit more compliant when it gets colder out.

I only drive the car in the summer, so no problem there. I have track wheels this year so I won't be on the ZIIs daily. Sounds like a good choice then. Thanks for the input.

One thing to look at when picking tires is what other mods you plan to do. Tires like RS3's and XS's are lighter with softer sidewalls so you need more negative camber to maintain a good contact patch. It's not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind.

Yea based on the input you guys have given and some other research I think I may go with dunlops. Any idea of what the widest tire I can put on the stock rims? Without rubbing that is.
