Occasionally, you can find Lagavulin at Costco/Sam's club for $55. I usually go for Laphroaig 10 though. Slightly more peaty than Lagavulin and less medicinal. You could pick up a bottle for around $44

Did somebody say whiskey?

So far, my favorites are Lagavulin, Knob Creek, and oddly enough, Gentleman Jack. Also Woodford Reserve, which I'm out of.

I'm a massive fan of islay malts, so Lagavulin is my personal fave. But I think the Oban is a "better" scotch, because it has a much richer flavor. The peat is still strong, but not overwhelming. The Glenlivet Nadurra is very interesting, it's like a cross between bourbon and scotch. Coal Ila is bottled peat; not much else there, and Glen Garioch is just some stuff my brother in law got me.

We have a bottle of Johnny Red that we can't give away. Probably because it tastes like Band-Aids.

I'm fortunate that my cousin loves alcohol so we can share and I can sample new things whenever he buys them too

I'm surprised you disliked the Glenlivet as much as you did. Generally it is very well regarded.

Personally I love it, it's my go-to "cheap" scotch. I always try to have a bottle on hand.

Well maybe I just stumbled on a bad bottle. But when my fav scotch reviewer (who happens to be a scotsman) gives it only 83/100, I think I'd just buy HP12 or Yamazaki or Laphroiag 10 instead.

83 ain't bad! Like I said it's my "cheap" go-to, not my favorite.

In Canada the Glenlivet 12 goes for $49/bottle, the Highland Park 12 is $70. Big difference. I can get a Glenlivet 15 for $71.

Our liquor stores are controlled by the provincial government.

Wow. $70 for HP12? Geez. It was $41 here until about 6 months ago when it went up to $45. Glenlivet 12 is about $41. I'd prefer Old Pulteney 12 at $35. 89/100.

Ours is government controlled as well... The government sets the prices, provides the liquor to the store and the store gets 6% of sales. No one would ever run a store merely for selling liquor to individuals - but they limit the number of stores per county (only one per county in the 3 counties closest to me) and the store gets to be the exclusive provided of all bars in the county. Then there are the tobacco sales, etc...

One I really want to try is the Bruichladdich Laddie 10. But it's not on the "approved" government list. That's the weird thing about the government - they'll approve one liquor from a company but not another liquor from the same company. I don't get it.

Interestingly, Ralfy gives Johnny Blue only 82/100 and Johnny Gold 81/100. It's not that he doesn't like blends or Johnny Walker as a brand... he gives Johnny Black 86/100 and Johnny Green 89/100.

Apparently he doesn't like people getting ripped off. LOL. "It's the same as buying a Louis Vuitton bag... If you want to put a bit more substance in your life, bypass branding." Gold "tastes of everything, but nothing in particular."

Let's see...I've got a small collection

Jameson Irish Whiskey
Glenlivet 12
Glenfiddich 12
Dewars white label for making my rusty nails
Jim bean Rye
Jack Old #7
White Mountains Moonshine from a local distillery
Chivas Brothers Royal Salute 21 yr old got this from my best man, still a little bit left I'm saving for when my daughter is born.

Also have a few honey whiskeys. Irish mist, drambuie and JD honey.

I've been meaning to buy 18 and 21 single malts, but whiskey is a small part of my liquor collection, I also have several vodkas, rums, a few tequilas, a variety of liqueurs. Also one gin, blegh, because my buddies wife likes gin and tonic. I don't drink a lot, but I like EVERYTHING, and so my liquor cabinet is a 6 foot hutch. God bless cheap liquor prices in NH.

Been looking for this for a while now, local LCBO just got about 8 bottles in stock so I snatched one up.

My favourite is the 12 year old Macallan...not too pricey so I can make sure I always have a bottle in my liquor cabinet. Nice straight up or however you like it!
