turbo + tires = different kind of car = more interested enthusiasts

There is untapped potential and money is being left on the table. Everyone says thank goodness we aren't forced to upgrade, or I hope this is limited production but I hope they do it. Toyota releases their technology slowly in order to milk the most money out of their lineup. Why not build a legend and go for gold?

Life is short. Give me more. Give us an all aluminum chassis, turbo with built motor, and better tires.

A turbo BRZ would absolutely compete with a WRX/STI. This idea that there is no significant competition between cars just because they're not exactly the same class is wrong IMO. I've seen plenty of people (including myself) cross-shopping the two and plenty of people who traded one in for the other. They're both in the fun car segment even if one is 2-door and RWD and one is 4-door and AWD.

buying for example an AVO kit and have a new turbo, reliable FRS for 30k out the door. better than any Toyota/Subaru price would be and more power too.

I just don't see the turbo upgrade happening in brz, their turbo fa just don't fit right in brz platform. And they are not going to design whole different engine anytime soon.
also remember, gt86 is suppose to be the new ae86. an entry level vehicle.

I'm glad no more power. More power = More $$$. This car was brought to market and priced as an entry level pure sports care. If I wanted to spend more money on a more powerful car, I would have bought something else.

Realistically, a refresh will probably be like this

Same weight or 10-30 LB less weight
200HP - > 210-220HP
151 TQ - > 160-165TQ
and more fancyness on the interior

If Toyota really want to add more hp to the Frs then they should make a TRD turbo kit. I don't know, might sound like a good idea.

Then it means people will only ever buy one of these cars, unless they total the car prematurely or something. People will move on to pony cars, Germans, or more expensive exotics. There's no other way of looking at it, if they don't build a slightly more expensive better car or modify this one the car will not survive multiple generations. Nor will new people be convinced to buy it if current owners are suddenly upgrading to other brands. Either something went majorly wrong along the way to producing this car (excessive costs, differing opinions, engineers jumping ship) or they simply had an inevitable cliff acknowledged from the beginning.

I've looked at this as a marketer, enthusiast and someone who wants a convenient upgrade before I spend Porsche dollars but I simply will not buy another vehicle at this level just to have fresh paint and a zero odometer. I am looking for a clear upgrade for the next sports car and by that I mean RWD, 2 door, sport chasis, mt avail, lightweight, with a sleek design. If my timetable is longer than anticipated, I'll go with the aftermarket turbo just to pass the time but it limits everything from resale to dependability which isn't why I bought new. *end rant*

It makes sense that rather than upgrading or increasing the power on the twins, they just produce another, more upscale vehicle that will be a logical step up. Don't forget Scion is supposed to be Toyota's entry level brand to bring in the first time buyers. Now that they have accomplished bringing people into the Toyota fold it makes sense with Toyota's marketing strategy that they then look to move those clients up to the Supra or something intermediate between the two. I don't see the FR-S moving upscale other than offering accessory combo packs like the Monogram to take a piece of the aftermarket pie.

If you want a boosted car made by subaru then buy a wrx or sti...
With all the boosted / high hp / heavy cars out on the market now, I see the twins as a wakeup to the automotive industry that you don't have to have a bi turbo 335i or boost wrx to enjoy spirited driving. Our society seems to have lost sight on what the term sports car means and it seems that the majority of people obsess over dyno #'s and 0-60 time. All you need is a proper suspension setup, lightweight chassis, low center of gravity, and rear wheel drive. The desingers of the twins have acheived this goal of a lightweight fun coupe by going back to the roots of 70-80's corollas, where all you had was 112hp/ 2200lb rwd car, and IMHO this car is perfect just how it is. To me this car is like a Mr. Potato Head, you get the basic body/parts and after that its up to you to mix and match parts and create whatever you want out of it.

The people in this forum need to stop speculating and complaining what the twins "should have" from the factory and just enjoy your car like its supposed to be enjoyed.... with traction control off and sliding through corners

I say screw Subaru and get rid of the boxer engine, it's the only thing about my car that I can't stand. I'd much rather the 2ar-fe from the new tc, that motor has a lot of potential and I would appreciate the ease of working on an inline 4.

Three reasons I have against it:
1) Factory reliability and warranty
2) Re-sale value
3) Autocross classes - installing a turbo bumps you into SM or SSM, where you can't be competitive without a lot of other upgrades too.

Guess I'll end up with a 2016 WRX STI instead.

as much as an typical inline motor from toyota with some yamaha love would be a awesome option to have I disagree about the 2ar-fe. I'm a former tc owner(1st gen) and have driven the second gen multiple times and I find while the motor(s) are silky smooth with a nice linear hp/tq band they aren't "racey" enough to fit the ft86 character. I still wish they would just quit beating around the bush and just call the tc a celica and also offer a more revvy "gts" option on the car -_- hell the brakes and suspension were almost a direct swap from the last gen celica and first gen tc and they are both Toyota's sporty fwd car while on the market, the tc only lacks a "gts" model.../rant
