Just because Toyota owns majority shares in FHI does not mean they can control Subaru to do whatever they want. It also does not mean that they have to get along at the engineering/R&D level.

The nail in the coffin is the new supra coming Toyota now has zero need to fill small requests. For those that want that power and trim level they'll pay to play with a Supra. I know if final looks, specs and priced below 100k I'll pay to play along with keeping my frs I love the little fella.
no where was he quoted saying no power bumper. what he did say was no turbos...

This is new, Karl Schlicht, executive vice-president at Toyota Motor Europe was just quoted yesterday saying a turbo version of the 86 is unlikely.

How about instead of complaining and whining, you could go and look for news and contribute to the forum.

Thanks

Well you or anyone can dream but I'll bet ya a friendly nickel there will be no 2.5 etc, etc... The power will lay in another platform for folks who want it.

But hey if folks want to wait and dream and recycle who am I to judge. I just know if the amazing miracle happened and I was wrong everyone would complain about whatever that motor or bump up was and most definetely would complain about the price.

Ok well not sure I needed correction but thanks for keeping an eye out. And I know how how to read very well thank you, it is rude to assume I do not know how even with a 7yr engineering degree under my belt. Let's not get those jokes going now...

Guess it just becomes tiresome to see how many people are so hopefull and certain of things based on "Rumours" only is all. Sorry if you felt that was directed squarely at you it was not.

ergh.. my prediction for the last 2 years:
better 86 than now...

200 lbs Lighter
Approx 15hp/20 lb-ft bump
Better wheels and tires.
MAYBE changes to gearing/final drive to fix the 0-60 metric
That is all
oh, and $1,000 price bump.

Or they kill it.

Think about it, they have worked their asses off to build a balanced car; all reviews praise it for its balance; buyers love it for its balance; and they would suddenly start building something that goes all against that? soemthing that haters will still hate??

Yeah, see... a turbo would not only be undesirable for throttle response, weight, and complexity/reliability; but it would mean they'd have to make a whole new transmission (the AZ6 can't seem to reliably handle that much torque long-term), new driveshafts, and redesign many other components. It probably isn't worth it for them to do all that. However, Adding a little displacement or tuning to the stock engine wouldn't be enough to require an overhaul of everything else and wouldn't effect the balance/vision of the car.

Also, as far as weight reduction goes, this also seems more likely for many reasons. For example, Denso has a new radiator, condenser, and A/C unit that is smaller and lighter that they could use. Plus, the cost of aluminum has gone down quite a bit since 2011-2012. They could use aluminum front fenders and/or forged aluminum front control arms and fixed aluminum calipers for example. Now, the car is already pretty darn light. Even 50 pounds reduction would be plenty (ideally off the front end and roof and trunk area).

So yes, cutting some weight and adding some torque (particularly in the mid-range) with maybe a little more hp (like 10-30) would be enough to perfect this car, IMO. If you wanted more than that, you likely have other goals in mind, like racing, and that's what the aftermarket is for.

Moreover, Subaru was expecting to not sell many BRZ's, hence why Stevens Creek Subaru still has the same 6 BRZ's sitting on their lot for the past 3 months
In Bakersfield they can't keep them on the lot when Scion always has FR-s's an eighth of a mile down the block.

Been driving my BRZ mostly and putting my 3rd Gen WRX to paces today. I really do notice how un-grippy the Prius tires stuck onto the mags of the car. As the Toyota guy said if they put a turbo'd version into production it would change the car.

Just wish they'd fix the torque curve to make it more useable at lower RPMs.
