Ok... Anybody else wonder how the hell Zombies can hear? They're fricken dead. In Walking Dead and other zombie movies/lore people are always cautious to not make noise around zombies. If they are dead then how can they hear?

sound waves will still cause the bones in the inner ear to vibrate, so they can hear.

i'm more surprised that they can still see after being zombies for so long. eyes would dry out, and retinas would become detached.

I think you're missing a key factor of "traditional" zombies. If they were dead-dead, there would be no threat at all, since they wouldn't be able to do anything. So, it's not that they are dead. Rather it's that they have been reanimated from death, usually only to a base, primitive level functioning mostly on instinct. Now, of course there are variations from story to story, but most of the imaginings of zombies have them very much alive, just not high-functioning.
