I second that. I'm pretty sure the car would not be the RWD four seater NA sports coupe that it is today without Toyota. Overhearing someone jokingly say "the only two wheel drive Subaru" from someone looking at the BRZ nearby me at the auto show this weekend really takes away any nostalgia I had for the BRZ being a Subaru.

I can see the BRZ being the first car of a Solid new branch for Subaru being a RWD platform. As well as Subaru being know less as AWD kings to more Performance in the future.

Thanks for the video have not seen it before.

I was wondering the same thing... My guess is that 1) Subaru only has AWD dynos because that's mostly what they make, and 2) The front and rear drums are mechanically linked to measure the total torque. The rear wheels spin the rear drum, which is mechanically linked to the front drum.

I remember the top gear magazine had details of who did what
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3128

and then there is brand preference

Epic. This gives me high expectations that I'm sure they won't fail.

i'm most likely biased towards suby since that's all i've owned in my life and i'm [obviously] a big fan of the brand...

at the end of the day, the car is powered by a BOXER engine, which is the biggest identity of these cars [86/brz/fr-s], imo... the engineering from the very beginning was done around the engine itself... attaining such a low cog and a superb overall balance of the car would have been impossible [i mean, "very difficult"] with other engine configurations...

of course this car would have not been possible without both companies working together, but that's a two-way street... i'm just happy it has a boxer as it's heart... and soul.

Probably a special dyno to better simulate real world conditions.

It would measure rolling resistance + rotational inertia of the entire drivetrain, since your front wheels are spinning on the road afterall...it would give an accurate idea of acceleration.

Your scale of epic and bust is subjective. I might rate it at 9.0 while you might rate it 8.5. If the car sells 5000 units in the 1st year does that make it epic or bust? What about 5025 units? (The numbers here are irrelevant. Just used for example).

Marketing and politics was involved in the release of information as to which company did what. I am suggesting the release of objective information about which company did what will be difficult to come by. How can you be certain if this company man is telling you the truth ? Or maybe his story is coloured by the fact he was working for x and not y. This latest video is just another chapter in that story.

Consider this thought experiment: you are led blindfolded to a car. It is either a BRZ or an 86. You are seated behind the wheel and your blind fold removed. All traces of branding have been removed from the interior. You drive the car. Now, will you like it any more or less when you find out it is a BRZ? (or an 86). I am suggesting any differences will be perceived differences.

I am just pleased that this car exists regardless of it's badge.
