I heard a odd noise as I picked up the car from the service centre at the end of the day after the last coilpack swop. Sounded like it came out from the airvents or something. Didnt take it too seriously. Couldn't notice it as engine speed increases, probably got drowned out. Not sure if that was the same noise. Meant to take it back to them but I was flying out on holiday and the accident happened pretty much 2 drives later.

How many km's were on your car when you picked it up? I wouldn't have thought the dealers would be able to modify the odo reading.

Just under 300 kms. That's like 60 test drives, my test drive there was under 5 kms.

But dealers here are able to reset the mileage after delivery.

That's a scary thought

Isn't it illegal for them to do that?

When the cars here get delivered, they usually get driven around at the depots/plants/harbour to the loading stations for a few kms but the mileage is cleared. You may only buy the car with a few 100 metres on it while the dealer drives it around to wash bays/window tinting/upholsterers.

I know on the Opels a few years ago, there was a single cable that gets disconnected that prevents odometer from working but you lose power steering too.

There probably are some rules to it like only allowing 1 reset up to a certain mileage or something.

I dont think my mileage was reset, I think it was just 300 kms of demo mileage with joyriders.

Sounds like your engine siezed like ours did. Subaru did nothing to assist us. We ended up buying our own engine.

Also sounds like Toyota isn't going to help me. Not sure how they can justify it though considering I have a history of engine codes and complaints to head office, including them not recalling my vehicle for the last software update.

So Toyota says that the last 3 months of tests were inconclusive. They will only fix the car at no expense to me. They claim parts for the engine are R114 000 (over $10 000) alone. Not sure why they aren't just replacing the engine with a new one. The price difference can't be more after considering labour in rebuilding an engine.

Also, they now claim that they did not check the black box, despite 3 Toyota employees telling me they were going to test it in an attempt to scare me. I was the one that insisted they should check it to verify my story.

I still don't feel safe in that car. They are fixing one of the effects rather than the cause. Think I should just get a Focus ST to pass the time until the Mustangs arrive here if I can sell the car for a decent amount.

DB86 - Did the engine blow ? If so then TSA should pull out that engine & replace it with a complete long motor with all new ancillaries controlling it to be sure. They run the risk of being sued if you have another accident caused my car/engine failure. Also I would never class a car with 300kms on the odo as new, there was most likely a fault with it since it rolled off the factory line which has caused your heartache. I'm sorry to hear of your horrible experience, persist with TSA but insist/demand the sort of action you want to happen & in a timely manner.
