More notes as I go along. I should compile these...
No towing. Which kind of makes sense. It's a low power car with a light body structure. Also the rear valence looks like it's be a PITA to get a hitch reciever to mount underneath. However, I'm sure the hitch companies will come up with one, and I'm sure a light race trailer for tires and tools would be just fine behind the BRZ. Accessory power socket IN the glove box. Cool. Two securing points for the Driver's floor mat. Nice. Though I don't think it'd pass an SCCA tech inspection. But that's no biggie. I hope Subaru has all-weather mats available by winter. Replacing the cabin air filter doesn't require removing a ton of screws or complete disassembly of the center console and lower dash. ![]() 4 fuses just for the headlights; one for each mode of each side. Rear fog light does not appear to be hooked up in the North American model. Hopefully the reflector is still present so it's just a matter of sourcing the socket and running some wires. 89ft-lb for the lug nuts. Interesting. Imprezas are only 70-72. 5.8qts! In that shallow little oilpan! I have no idea how they fit it all without the crank hitting the oil. Also, this means I have to buy a 6th qt when I do oil changes. With they had kept it at 4.8-5qt like the turbo EJs.0W-20.. Freakin' water. Well, during the warranty it'll get the bottled water. After, I'll bump up to 5w-30. The manual trans uses real gear oil, not "Manual Transmission Fluid." Good. The 13gal tank is bigger than I figured it would have. But I hope I can still hit the same gas stations on my usual trips. I'll have to average over 35mpg. I think it's possible... Very cool. Some good surprises, and some odd ones. Can't wait for this car! |

The more oil the better for track days, as that means more passages and more potential for having a factory oil cooler in some reasonable capacity. 0W-20 is perfect for most daily driving; quick lubrication in cold weather and cold starts, and low drag during normal running for good fuel economy. The only reason you'd go thicker weight is for heavy track work/actual racing, you don't cold-start your engine [a la Formula1], don't care about fuel economy, or you have more operational data and UOA than BITOG and Subaru/Toyota combined. Frankly I'm disappointed the trans uses thick maple syrup, especially since Toyota/Subaru have been claiming good fuel economy this whole gestation period. Going with an MTF may significantly improve shift quality and operational efficiency, however the trade-off may be increased wear, depending on gear finishes and sync cone quality.

Any 0W is fully synthetic, which is why the manual doesn't bother to mention it. Impossible to have a dino 0W oil as far as I know.

I think he was little inexperienced with driving the manual. But I agree it is nice they are ditching hill assist. Or at least if it can be disabled...

People have been saying there would be hill hold but no word of that in the manual. I guess there isn't going to be one then? The manual instead tells you to use the parking brake when starting on a hill.

FA20: vs EJ20: ![]() Makes me wonder how an additional quart won't put the crank in contact with the oil in the pan. Especially when the turbo engines keep a half quart in the turbo oil lines. Must be some engineering wizardry. Quote:

I'll use what they suggest but I am curious as to their reasoning. Even cars that require gear oil you can run other oils in (and I have in race cars before without issue), it's just noisy and if the components are junk, it'll shorten the lifespan. I guess I will have to research gear oils now though.

FWIW, Auto-X is about as tough on the car as someone tying together a few fun on-ramps. It's not rough on the car like HPDEs, let alone endurance racing [i.e. The Nurburgring race the Gazoo FT86 competed in].
