This is why this car doesn't sell well.
They made a car that is only fun at the track but targeted at people who mostly can only afford 1 car. The lack of torque means this car is pretty damn boring on the real world and the lack of usable 4 seats, space and size means that the market is VERY small.

I was ALL about this car until I drove it and almost fell asleep.
I'm buying a Fiesta ST instead with the same weight as FRS, more power(turbo), 4 seats, 4 doors, useful hatch and definitely more fun. all for less money.

Most people my age (18-22), don't really care about sports car..

Most my friends drive 4 door sedan, or SUV.

And when they sit in my car they sometimes go
Wtf no heated seats? No heated steering wheel? No auto climate? No awesome rainbow interior led lights? Even hyundai have it!!

They don't care about sports car, they care about
wow. i can text and drive ALL at the same time
wow 1080P Touch screen yo!!!
pretttty button on steering wheel. me likey. i like distracted driving.

People my age only care about phones, snapchat, facebook, and not cars.

Sad to see that there are barely any car enthusiast.

Well, I'm glad you found a car you like better, but I wouldn't call this car boring on the daily. Everyone who has been in my passenger seat or behind the wheel has loved it--all different ages and walks of life.

I've always enjoyed driving, but this car is the most fun I've ever had going from A to B. I can't wait to try it on a track.

Found the the automatic version a little dull on the fr-s don't feel the same power you have in a standard(no offense to fellow members on here with autos) but the standard is awesome, such a blast to drive.

My .02, wouldn't expect the resale value on the fiesta to be good in long run

I couldn't agree with you more. I love driving this car everywhere. It really just gets down to what each person prefers in a car.

Regarding the topic this thread originated with. Seems like there are a lot of opinions but if the sale numbers are true it seems more like the company had higher expectations compared to the number they release to the public.

Pretty harsh to say the 86 is boring. I drove the 1.6l turbocharged Fiesta ST but didn't find it more exciting than the 86. It's not possible to draw up a direct comparison between these 2 cars anyway; RWD VS FWD, difference in COG, coupe vs 4 doors, etc.

Honestly, the VW Scirocco is a better comparison (2.0l 4 cylinder 210hp). Both coupes, almost the same displacement and power, pretty low COG.. although it's not RWD.

Finally, I bought the 86 after testing some other cars (BMW M135 - 320hp, Scirocco R - 265hp, Golf GTI - 220hp, Fiesta ST - 182hp). Reason? Hatchback looks like shit. I don't have kids and often drive alone so 2/4 seats doesn't concern me. The 86's design looks really sporty, modern and beautiful in my opinion.

If the cars are human:
Hatchback = wearing Bermudas, looks okay when you chill out with friends, but embarrassing on a formal date, doesn't impress the girls.

Know the power of first impression? You might be a very nice guy with good virtues, but if you dress like shit, that's so not cool.

I don't think most people expressing their opinion here understand that their personal reasons for liking or not liking the 86 are only theirs and another small group of people. What we have is hundreds or thousands of different groups that have different reasons for liking or disliking the car. Those two sides will argue until blue in the face and will not convince the other of their views. Just like politics.

Toyota and Subaru produced this car for a specific audience. If you are complaining about the car, you probably are not part of that audience. Get my point? Stop bitching about the car people!

The 2015 Mustang with the Turbo 4 is coming soon. 300+HP and 300+ Ft-lbs of torque.
That will put the nail in the coffin.

In the current market, there's not anything else like the FR-S out there, so people either buy this car or they don't. Not much business incentive to change it.

Sorry I don't want drive a big boat like a Mustang. I was hoping that the '15 Mustang was going to be smaller and lighter like had earlier been rumoured. Instead they made a nicer looking package but it's still a BIG coupe.

The Turbo4 Mustang will be the lighest. Across the line they are using aluminum for the hood and maybe some panels. Like the next Ford F150.

Still going to be 3000+ lbs and the dimensions are just too big for my liking.

I would seriously consider a Mustang if they could take the current 5.0 GT, cut the curb weight by about 600 lbs, chop the length about two feet, and the height by about 6".

There was some discussion that the 2015 Mustang would be smaller and lighter, but that seems to have been wrong. Edmunds is predicting the new Mustang will be the same length, just 1" shorter in height, and 100 lbs. heavier. That's not enough of a change for me, and the weight is heading the wrong direction entirely.

Agree 100% and it's a whole different class anyway. The mustang is a 0-60 muscle car. On a road course track it is still miles away from even Camaro. And once again... Camaro and Mustang are not direct competition to the 86.

Yeah, I think the original rumors of a smaller, lighter Mustang could have done some damage to the twins. But as it currently sits, its still a really big coupe that weighs a lot.
