Oh I see, if we don't talk about it then maybe it never really happened.

But sure lets support the software that wasn't doing anything when we had nothing...

Remember when people where paying $1000 for cables and locked tunes from inexperienced tuners?

You're just sad because you miss them.

well hot damn look at that... from the void . funny to read this and see how far we've come. that repo of free ots ecutek tunes we were talking about on page one... man that would still be a good idea, huh? i wonder if anyone's working on one of those... . of course we didn't envision a user-tuneable ecutek at the time. oh how times have changed...

that i guess will have to wait until more people enthusiastic and familiar with tuning will buy these cars and get it tuned with romraider.

if it ever happens at all
ecutek roms can be unlocked just like those for any other software. none of the cars i've tuned have locked roms.

true.. i love it for that as well. you know me, i'm all about open source everything. but once you taste custom maps, you can't go back. you just can't lol.

apple vs. linux is actually a great comparison. once you touch a unibody macbook and that glass trackpad, it's just hard to go back as much as you may want to. mint, ubuntu and #! are great, but they're no osx if you get my drift. power, flexibility and ease of use convert even the most hardened open source supporters. hell we write open source software all day, from the comfort of our locked-down macs . not because it's more open. it isn't. just because all those little things add up to make our 9-5 that much easier, and allow us to write better software faster, leaving more time to contribute to the os projects we love .

racerom is a lot like that. it's just flat-out better, any way you stack it. it allows you to do more, easier and in less time. that's about all there is to it for me. when you get to doing several of these cars a week, you just want it to work the first time and be as frictionless as possible. kinda like that glass trackpad .

btw, i don't think adding custom maps would too hard for RR folks. they almost nailed the live tuning as far as i've read but seems like there is not enough people and to little free time.
I really hope they can get them, but its not an easy task from what I've learned.

It's a case-by-case thing. You'll have to talk to your tuner and establish that on your own. I know some will unlock only for users that buy racerom from them.

It would be very hard. The entire stack has no concept of it at this point. The open source community is more focused on patching in features one at a time (like tephramod). Solving a single problem is fairly simple compared to creating tools that allow users to solve their own problems.

It's definitely not trivial, and no work has been done at all up to this point that I'm aware of.
