So you've just added a supercharger, hydraulic suspension, racing spoiler, and custom paint job to your 1994 Honda Civic and now you're wondering where you're going to get car insurance. Like many modified car buffs, you might think finding modified car insurance is going to be a chore. We're here to tell you it's a lot easier than you think.

Wrong. Allstate owns them.

When I dropped Allstate like a rock last year for huge rate hikes multiple times while I remained clean, Esurance was barely any cheaper.

GEICO on the other hand offered me full coverage on BRZ+Miata for $200 less than Allstate for just the Subaru (I had been with Allstate for 11 years)

I switched from geico to esurance a few days ago. Our premiums for a 2011 crv and 2013 frs went from $121 per month down to $65 per month. I also increased the limits for personal liability and property damage, as we'll be towing a bigger trailer this year when we reinsure the truck and boat.

The only bad thing about esurance is they only cover up to 4k in modifications. That's still better than the $0 that Geico would cover for some of my mods.

Looks like I may be swtiching. USAA already fucked me over on my first totaled BRZ. I had a professional detailer apply Opticoat to my car. I gave them quote from my detailer for the same job on my replacement BRZ for ~$600. They called and told me a bucket of opticoat is $50.....

I had to explain you don't just dump a bucket of goop onto the paint and call it a day. All said and done they gave me $200 for "clearcoat" Asshats.

Not to mention they wouldn't even pay attention to my other minor mods. Minor yes, but they add up. I'll be giving Esurance a call when I head back to the states. Thanks for the info OP!

My question is; while you are saving money w/ Esurance, are you getting quality care if something does happen?

this is the most important question.

Geico will insure me for a pretty good amount cheaper ($50) but have heard some pretty bad stuff about trying to go thru claims. at least in my family, state farm has come through very well (not necessarily in car insurance, but home).. with little to no questions asked

on that note I am curious - are people insuring their mods? If you drop $10k into this car how could you not also insure that? That's terrifying. Someone else rams you and totals your car, $10k in mods = poof?

also I noticed most peple saying esurance is cheaper for them but they want an extra $20 a month for both my cars.. :'(

for fun, I put in my info into Hagerty's estimator.

can only be a car that is not your primary, but if I valued the FR-S at $35k, have the same insurance policies that I have now, it's only like 30 bucks more a month.

would definitely consider something like this if I ever spent a good amount of money in my car
