i'm thinking muffled metal-on-metal awfulness. but again, i havent torn an engine apart in 6 or 7 years, and that was back in my sportbike wrenching/tuning days. i don't remember what i did last week, much less half of what i knew back then. it just doesn't sound healthy to me.

Definitely doesn't sound like a rod knock thank god.... Sounds like a really loose motor, OR... a slipped wrist pin hitting the bore.

Its no easy task to shim these heads. I bet it wasnt shimmed properly.

Does the FA20 use a solid or hydraulic lifter?

Reminds me of very loose valve lash
