Big dealerships have their own on-sight pump. It's filled with regular pump gas; count on it. Few Toyota or Subaru personnel understand the significance of the 12.5-1 compression ratio in our engines. The COMPRESSION ALONE will cause detonation (an unhealthy explosion that can cause serious damage because it occurs at the wrong time). This kind of detonation CANNOT BE CONTROLLED by the engine ECU, which would ordinarily dial back the ignition timing. The BRZ manual TELLS US that the engine can actually be DAMAGED with less than 91-octane fuel. I know a tank of gas is expensive, but you're better off with NO fuel than a full tank -- 300 miles? -- of low octane fuel that could be damaging the engine as it just sits there idling. You with me, here? ![]() Ask questions if you need to. How else are you to learn? |

I knew, but I just honestly thought dealerships would know too since the frs has been out for awhile now...totally freaking now.
I'm gonna hunt these people down and bug the shit out of them in hopes they follow through on not filling her up. -sigh- |

THIS is why she needs to take it to the gas station herself. How else can she be assured that her new engine got the fuel it REQUIRES? YOU must take it to the station, Ashley. I often do it with the salesman, who brings the dealership credit card and/or signs in the station office. This is IMPORTANT for the health and well-being of your marvelous new sportscar. |

If the lot guy drives your new special edition FR-S to the station to get fuel if they don't have an on-sight pump...
He's going to "check out your new car" if only to see whether this special edition is any faster. He's likely to wind out your stone cold engine to redline. He does not care about you or your car. Hence, the admonition, "Do NOT drive my car." It should have approximately six miles on it and no more as it comes off the truck. Take it off the truck and park it in a corner away from dings and scratches. As I told my dealership, "You wash it, you own it. You drive it, you own it." Those are my terms. They believed me, respected my wishes and we have a fine relationship. |

Good advice, thanks guys. I'll be meeting with my salesman soon. No gas, no driving, no wash.
...man what a nightmare. |

I realize that you'd like it a lot better if Luis and I came along and did all of this for you, but we're doing the best we can from long distance.
I know you're fight-phobic and disinclined to assert yourself, Ashley, but you can do this. Be pleasant but firm. You're a grown-up, girl, despite how you may feel sometimes, and I know you can do this. You have it in you. It's your car. Assert your right to have it YOUR way. Can you do this? Tell the truth, now. We can pump you up some more if necessary.

Okay, so basically they take your car off the transport truck and park it safely in a corner.
Yet another "Not." They are NOT to remove the protective plastic covering the body. You will do that when you arrive. It helps keep anyone from trying to wash it as well. It'll only take a few minutes to peel of the plastic panels. There aren't very many, actually. Hood, roof, trunk, and a few along the flanks as I recall. Now, take a deep breath. You okay?

Wow. That's low. That was in PR, right?
Here in the Midwest, our cars come in with about six miles. I have no idea why it's so much, but it's typically between 4-7 for all the cars we've bought for decades here. I like 2 miles better, but ... |

Tell them to not place the car where it's visible for people to window shop it... my dealership was actually nice enough to hide my car behind the work bays where it was away from prying eyes... of course it was part of the perk of me forcing them to allow me to make a 1K deposit to hold my car...
They already knew it was sold the second it arrived, and they where only getting one. |
