Mazda is just as bad or now worse than Toyota when it comes to bringing back Japanese icon. Hopefully it'll happen and they do it well, even though it will likely be a hybrid.

From all the previous articles and magazines I've read years ago to now, they keep going back and forth on the idea to bring that car back and what engine design to go with. Apparently a new developed rotor engine is in the works, but its being well kept from us finding more about it or whether it will be even used for the Miata, the return of the RX-7, or something completely unexpected. Its just nice to see the rivalry rise among them like the good ol' days.
