Bending the wife's car is a poor strategy. It leaves you permanently vulnerable in the future, doesn't it?

BTW, I like your redundant "humfrz."

If the wheel balances taken straight off the car it should be fine.

It can be very subtle or obvious depending in te bend.
The dealer is 1 hour+ drive away. I guess I'd better trust the dealer this time.

Thanks for the advices!

Well, if you're implying that it was just random bad luck, then you're not learning the lessons you need to take away from this "accident."

This "accident" would NEVER have happened to me.

Until you learn what your mistakes were that brought about this so-called "accident," you're doomed to repeat it.

You lack both skill and judgment.

I'll leave it to you to ponder that. Good luck.

Oh yes, @Porsche, you got the situation pegged. I suspect you have been there .. ??

Unfortunately she was with me when I was showing off how the ABS/ESC/TC and all works on a snow covered road in our subdivision, so I couldn't make up something....like I got forced off the road .....

Yep, the file in her steel trap mind, labeled "the stupid old coot wrecked MY precious car" is right at the top of her server awaiting to be delivered with her stainless steel tongue ....

Yes, since I don't have stuff at the bottom, I feel more better "signing" off.

This. It should be instantly more apparent now since you didn't intend to drift and it happened anyway.

Not me, mon. Then again, "There but for the grace of God, go I…" I've seen it often enough. LOL!

I'm in the Autumn of My Years and with a little bit o' luck I'll make it through to the end without ever bending anything. I can hope, anyway… Who knows?

Right. Swerving around the ubiquitous, errant deer who was crossing against the light when it wasn't his turn. It's positively amazing how many of those deer are around.

But, I don't know. Maybe it's better that she was present at the scene of the crime… so she knows exactly how mundane and common it was. The alternative would involve her forever disbelieving your story and imagining the most horrific scenarios and then using those against you forever after. It's probably better this way.

Forever stored in the gunnysack of grievance collections, to be retrieved, cocked and loaded, and pointed at you whenever you might "need it." LOL!

It's good to have a sense of humor in our old age, don't you think?

Update:

Picked up the car last night. Dealer told me no need to replace the wheel after the suspension was fixed - cosmetic damage only.

Drove the car up to 65mph and the steering was fine.

Guess I'll live with it.

Thanks everyone!

I don't know about the insurance where you are, but I wouldn't have gone to the dealer myself. There are other shops that are more trustworthy.

I did go through insurance.

The accident was in another city so I didn't know 'trustworthy' mechanics in that area. Plus I didn't have the extra car/time to travel there the next day.

I guess sometimes I just can avoid paying.
