Me in 10 years

I'm probably not the first one here to see this since it's currently the top post on Reddit, but I hope this doesn't happen to me in 10 years.

Why anyone would think that a 4 door sedan isn't a good family car is beyond me. If I had a family and needed something bigger I would probably be going to a wrx, not a *shivers* minivan...

wrx/sti has barely any room in the rear, terrible gas mileage, everything rattles and creaks. Still loved to drive mine as a DD though lol

A car is just a car, there will always be another - so drive the crap out of all of them.

Why so anti minivan? They are awesome if you're secure in your "coolness". They are huge, smooth, comfortable, great gas mileage and you can load up anyone and anything... I say enjoy vehicles of all flavors--my Garage: Minivan, FR-S, Tundra Crewmax and Honda Pioneer FTW.

I used to think like that...until I had to let my e46 M3 go because I needed something I could also drive in the winter.

Almost 2 years ago now and I still stalk on the local forums just in case it comes up for sale.

There will always be another, but none like her.

My 2012 Odyssey Touring Elite is rated at 28mpg highway (easily gets over 30), seats 8 real adults... Has a 4.0 v6 yes, but cylinder deactivation and 6 speed auto help a lot, along with great aerodynamics. RESPECT THE VAN! lol

Who even needs a minivan? Back when I was a kid (minivans were just invented) my dad & mom both used to drive fox Mustangs lol. When I got a bit older they took pity on me and my brother and bought a Thunderbird SuperCoupe, but my dad still had his Mustang. It wasn't until I was 16 that they got two 4 doors, a Grandprix GTP and an Explorer for the cottage. I guess they figured the Mustangs were not fit for a 16 year old.

Both my brother and I are 6 feet tall.

The problem doesn't lie in their utility or practicality. Well, it does, when you consider the fact that a minivan is defined by it's utility and practicality, and little else. Its problem lies within the conformity to the idea that you've "given up" to the cookie cutter family lifestyle that leaves you chained with no more room for personal fun, everything must be sacrificed for the family. This isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but it's the perception. There's nothing wrong with the minivan considering its purpose, just the emotions it can evoke.

Also, there is nothing inherently "fun" about a minivan, and no single minivan has ever incited a wordwide internet orgasm like some spectacular new sports car design, because a sports car can embody freedom, excitement, thrill, and competition. Those things are fun...

Haters gonna hate, but many car enthusiasts make a personal choice to avoid minivans like the plague (and deny themselves all that wonderful utility and practicality) to do things with some measure of inconvenience to enjoy the drive every day, every time. They love their families, but they have a passion for their cars. It's also good to have a passion or hobby of your own, and can strengthen the family bond when they enjoy it as well.

It's also possible to have a fun car and a minivan, but that logic escapes some of us. Personally, my wife's Outback is the family car and it works great.

You can't compare a minivan to a wagon or hatch... That makes no sense, I award you no points.

Love the racing van pic! But yes--if you have a family and kids, if you've ever opened a car door in a parking lot... Well he minivan makes sense.

My point is that it's so "cool" to hate on minivans these days, and seriously it's not like their SUV counterparts are exactly enthusiast vehicles.

The only reasons people get an SUV instead of a minivan are 1) to fit in and show they are still cool, 2) to pull a trailer. --most are not buying the SUV to tow anything or go "off road", and I think we all know that...
