Asphalt makes the car look like a 25k car, raven when clean makes the car look like its 35-40k

At 8.5% sales tax in Tracy, CA your estimate of $1,000 in tax made me giggle. You're looking at at least $2000 in tax. And don't leave it up to a forum to pick the color of the car that YOU'RE paying for. My personal take is that Both colors show dirt easily. Black will be the hardest to keep looking clean.

I have Raven, and I'd pick asphalt. I would have if it were available when I bought mine.

You'll have to pay me to waste my energy to convince you. I don't know you. But if it helps, I like the asphalt and would have been my second choice. Wait, whatever that dark grey color is, I'm not familiar with the names Scion created in attempt to sound hip.

It was kind of a three-way tie for me. I mean, I got it my head a while back that while red=sports car, orange=exotic sports car. And I told myself that one day I would own an orange sports car (though I never took this very seriously until the FR-S showed up.) All of the colors look good on this car, so even though I had my orange car dream I still had trouble making up my mind.
So, my choices were hot lava, asphalt, or raven. Hot lava for the reason above. Raven because of my name (and a corresponding idea for a custom license plate.) And asphalt because my last (and favorite car before the FR-S) was dark grey. The first time I saw the asphalt on a dealership, I almost changed my mind. Almost. I didn't want raven because I didn't want to worry about keeping it clean obsessively. Hot lava won in the end. But my next choice would be asphalt.

I had a black car before buying my FRS. Black was always dirty looking, swirl marks were a PITA to maintain, and it was just a hassle. Therefore I bought a white car and have never looked back.

Black so you don't offend anyone because you seem to care what others think.
Also, I'll be impressed if you don't end up paying at least $26k when all is said and done. California tax title license will be a minimum of $2k. |

I say Asphalt! In the day it'll look gunmetally and all, but at night, it'll look just like a raven ;3 unless you got some sorta light on it. I personally would pick asphalt. Easier to maintain and with the perfect lighting, you'll get a nice sheen on it. PLUS I feel like you can see the lines of the car better on the raven and the color contrasts between the black and gunmetal look

My car is asphalt, and I love it, but I also think that this car looks great in every colorway it comes in. That being said, are there other things that matter to you with regards to color?
From what I've been told by professional detailers, Asphalt (well, dark grey metallic in general) is one of the colors that hides scratches best. Some people prefer black because it's a powerful color and might be easier/have more options for any sort of cosmetic modding whereas with asphalt I think you need to be be more selective about what you put on the car if you want it to come out looking good (wheel colors, do you want to wrap the car later, etc). If you like them both and fine scratches and minor marring showing aren't a big deal to you then get the Raven and save yourself a bit of cash not getting that (IMO) ugly as f*ck spoiler. If you're neutral about going with one or the other - take the one with less miles on it? flip a coin?
