In states where I've looked, they are the same character, meaning every zero is actually a letter O.

I just did a quick search and it seems like in Virginia you can get a 0 or O on a license plate, but they will count as the same thing in the system.

e: meaning 00000 = OOOOO = 0O0O0 = 000OO etc

e2: maybe I'm wrong. I think Virginia might actually be like most states where 0 and O are identical characters on the plate and identical in the system.

They don't make any mention of it here:

This.

My jeep plates are 0I1I1I0 (it's a jeep thing - not binary) and it did not matter if it were 0's or O's when making the plate. When I purchased this plate, it shifted all combinations with 0's and O's from available to already purchased.

Do you honestly think you're the first person to think of this? Oh wow! O's and 0's look identical!

:|

There are no O's in any state plate. It's all 0's.

My friend in VA had a plate that ended in "07" because that was his favorite number (7). It was registered as an O. so it was really O7, instead of 07

I used to run MWWMMMWM or a variant of that. Being that the M's and W's are wider letters, they really get crammed in on a license plate. It was always a conversation piece and even the cops got a kick out of it.
