I've always had this idea for an electrified steering wheel, you have to disengage it by using your keyfob or you get a taser dose of electricity when you grab the wheel. That would be funny as hell.

Not really worried, there won't be as many of these cars on the road as there are Civics so I think the demand for parts would be smaller.

In Hondas, when you turn the car from ON to OFF (II to O), or when you turn your car off and yank out the key, you get a blinking (either green or red) picture of a key on the dash to indicate that the immobilizer has engaged. Do Subies have that too?

Most Hondas after 98 have immobilizers, pretty sure all new cars after a certain year are required to have them. Not sure when it was implemented on all cars but almost certain any new car you buy has an immobilizer nowadays.

The ignition doesn't work if the key isn't within like 6 inches of the steering column. Its always engaged when the car is off.

Immobilizers are a joke. A mild deterrent at best and they are easy enough to bypass. Hell I had my own cars immobilizer bypassed for years.

Security has to be applied in layers. Smart alarm installs to make it painful or a thief and to waste some of their time, smart rewiring/relocation of key components like the main relay of a Honda, 2way and early warning devices, boots, etc.

Yup, saw vidya that the other day. That's prolly how my Civic was stolen, along with the other 2 Hondas stolen on that same night at my apt.

I personally have my steering column JB Welded to hell as well as my window frame covers JB welded. My thought process is it will add a significant amount of time to the thief's efforts & hopefully I'll hear them. But in the end a tow truck can be off with your car in under a minute. I've had to break into my own Honda multiple times & it's super easy.

Just as you said, it's all about deterrents working in unison, an alarm will alert you & maybe scare a thief off before they either disengage it or make off with the car, along with deterrents to slow them down. But again, in the end anything can just be towed away. The best deterrent is a garage.

In the unfortunate case that you don't have a garage, more layers of security is always best. Club, and all the sensors that alarms offer lol, including the talking one if you're ballin.

Most alarms can be bypassed in seconds unless the installer knows their stuff and cared enough to do a solid install.

A boot, while annoying is the best you can do when it comes to a single piece of security. And I mean a real one not the cheap ones they sell.

I need a lesson in Honda theft deterrents from you. Having three Integras is more nerve wrecking than having three beautiful daughters in high school.

What about a GPS tracking chip put in a secret location on your car? Granted it won't actually stop a thief but you'll be able to track your car(and hopefully the thief) down. One kit I've seen even lets you monitor your cars position from your smart phone, tho I do not know how effective it is since I haven't tested it.

Those videos don't lie - seriously 20 seconds and the car is being towed away. I stayed at a downtown hotel with 40 rooms and 20 parking spaces. My room overlooked the parking lot. People going to bars would park in the tiny lot. There were 2 tow trucks making constant trips every 10 minutes to pick up another car. Sometimes alarms would go off on the towed car, but they drove off anyways.

Am I worried? I've owned a WRX for 9 years. Haven't been too concerned. Then again, I don't park at sketchy places and my car is usually in the garage at night. The BRZ will be treated like royalty for the first couple years in my house - always garaged, not driven in the rain, not parked at the mall while I shop, etc.
