Well, our Chumpcar season gets off to an early start this year.... Headed to Road Atlanta for a 14 hour race on Saturday.

109 cars registered, likely 90+ will take the green flag.

Should be fun!

Last year our first race was Watkins Glen. 95ish cars. we finished 8th and were the only only 4 cyl car in the top ten.

I'll let you all know how we make out when we get back!

Some Fun on GT6 last night

Getting a pretty good crowd going now, makes it more fun since there's always someone to tussle with whether fast or slow. Had 13 on at one point I think.

Did 7 races:
  • Matterhorn witrh the Renault Megane, see vid below
  • Brands Hatch with Scirocco Racecar
  • Suzuka with Scirroco Racecar
  • Silverstone GP with Honda HSV
  • Trial Mountain with GTR Racecar
  • Mount Panorama with Jaguar XKR
  • Nordschleife with Merc SLS GT3
Norm, Chad, Pete and I showed up from FT86.

Some quick vids:

Front-heavy Megane at Matterhorn

Chad's crazy tankslapper with the Merc SLS at Nordschleife.

It was a lot of fun with so many racing. The Matterhorn is a fun track. With a big group, sometimes it's good to start at the back and drive through the 1st corner carnage!

I noticed you do pretty well to stay out of trouble. Some good podiums there.

Perfect offset, lots of brake clearance for future upgrades and a dish I could look at all day long!

Seems like its going to be a nice summer well spent.

Here is another way one can get some track time at Calabogie. Fun and affordable 2 hour Lapping Nites

www.1morelap.ca

First event is May 3rd, 10 more nites still being locked down.

It's a Contour Roam camera. Can do 1080p and I like the fact that it is very small and compact. It was also pretty inexpensive at $130 when I got it, was on special though. It has a built-in battery, so no swapping batteries, but you can get 3.5 hrs or footage from 1 charge. Also is waterproof and has a rotating lens so you turn the camera in any direction for a shot. Plus a laser level built-in to make sure the lens is properly set. I have a mount on the bottom of my passenger visor and it gives a great vantage point for track videos.

The "Roam" that I have is no longer available, replaced by the Roam 2. Typical pricing is in the $200-300 range for the new cameras, as compared to the GoPros that are $300-500 typically.

Also, the higher-end Countour+2 for $300 has smartphone connectivity, GPS and an external microphone jack so you can get the perfect sound for your video too. Lots of bang for the buck there.

Here are a few sites where you can get them in Canada, and of course Amazon sells them too.

Greg's lapping nites are great, and should be lots of fun this year as they are being done in conjuction with Calabogie (i.e. they are not just renting the track to Greg but approving/promoting these lapping nights as well).

Keep in mind that these lapping sessions aren't for newbies and you need to be vouched for.

They have gone well in the past because you know you can trust the guy in front of behind you, so experience is key and especially respect on track.

No, I parked outside behind Steve's Music Downtown. 2 break-ins and some red paint since I bought the car. I moved out to Orleans a couple weeks ago, so I was very happy to pull the BRZ into my new garage. Super pissed seeing the car after 2 weeks and noticing the scrape. That is life I suppose..

I'm really interested in swapping bumpers for the FRS, or even finding an aftermarket one that is too 'wild' or tacky.
