I've got an idea. Lets get someone with some lightweight wheels on the track. Get a baseline of performance. Then, we'll add on about 3-4lbs of tape-weights to each wheel and redo the test.
done. ![]() at least then we can throw the "wheel stiffness" etc out the window to an extent. |

I traded weight off on the wheels for weight on at the tires with my 17x9 RPF1s on 245/40R17 Dunlop Z2s. I don't think the acceleration or braking changed on the car during AutoX, but the amount of traction sure as hell did. (And the suspension upgrades from @Racecomp Engineering and @Whiteline didn't hurt either).

I would go as far to say that you would notice a 10lb net savings on your wheels. |

I have 17x7 RPF1's with hankook v12's. Saved roughly 6 lbs per corner..car is much lighter on its feet, the v12's are definetly not rs3's or star specs, but a pretty good improvement in grip over stock.

Compared to stock..then going to a lighter wheel but wider and heavier tire..even a -5lbs wheel (ex: rpf1), I don't think it'll be much a diff anymore... after the tires, you'll be saving maybe only 1-2lbs per wheel compared to stock from going full oem setup to a 9" wheel with 245s. The improvement will obviously be more about running a wider wheel and tire while keeping things weighing fairly similar as before.

I am running 16x7 Volk TE37s and 225/50/16 Hankook RS-3s, yes its smaller and people will complain it looks funny, but they are significantly lighter than the stock setup.

Track, look, grip
Currently I am looking at going with enkei performance klamps at 18x7.5 running a Goodyear ls2 sport tire at 225/45/18 I have a 10 series fr-s so they will def stand out on it weight is at 20.8Lbs and stock are at 22.8 so I am cutting 2Lbs off per corner with them |

But not so fast on the weight savings...remember your bigger tire will weigh more...not sure the exact weight on your Goodyears, but I'm guessing 24-25 lbs each compared to the stock Michelins (20lbs each) and you're actually still adding weight per corner. I keep going in circles with this very issue! Now thinking of just staying with stock size with lighter wheel and higher performance tire in a 215/45/17.
