Functional? Funny. It's not functional until you cut some of the engine bay sheet metal.

NE1 know how to remove the gas cap chrome piece? Someone told me about using a heat gun. But would the paint beneath it be still ok?

"Chrome" can have it's benefits when it's actually metal...SUVs & trucks that have side steps, wheels and bumpers made of "chrome" are done so with purpose...stands up to rock, sand, gravel pitting (better than plastic or powder) and any marks it does get can be polished out. Vent guards sucking in air also get abuse, anyone tracking, look around the track edges at the end of the race, you'll see the lightweight plastic pieces that broke off the car's vents.

For plastic stick on chrome the tacky level is pretty high...if the finish isn't good the opaque plastic beneath starts to show and if they weren't attached good they can collect sand underneath that scratches up the paint as the edge moves.

*2cents*

I sprayed those chrome 'blades' with matt clear to give them a brushed aluminum look, I love it. Also Canadian cars don't come with those chrome blades from the factory, so it makes my car a bit different at least.
