We do... Just because I'm not afraid to do my job doesn't mean I'm crazy.

I think what they're seeing isn't a lack of fear, but a particular level of glee expressed towards such a crazy situation. Must have been a slow night.

Just now, I go to the speed limit and do full stops and apparently that warrants also being screamed at.
Then all the tailgators. I mean, damn, at least invite me to dinner if you're gonna get that close. And people who text and drive...
I mean come on. In class, I was infront of people who were bragging about not getting a DUI, even though she crashed her mom's SUV into a tree while drunk.

ARGH.
Should not have seen the first post on this thread... Now I want Arby's.
That's the city life right there. And you almost described word for word exactly what it's like out in Arizona. People there are pretty nuts too and very aggressive drivers. Obviously its not right, but these people are so used to a certain demand of driving patterns that when an unexpected variable gets in the way they begin to flip out.
I can't say I'm not one of those people sometimes. I just don't flip out over it little situation like that though. I mean I do have my driving patterns and get annoyed when someone doesn't know what to do in certain situations. But I can get over it, cause some really are following the rules or I consider the other driver is not familiar of the area.
The important thing is to drive safe and in your comfort zone. Don't do something you don't want to cause some jackasses can't have a little patience and drive accordingly.

I mean it's kinda bad here.
I've been followed home, and the person described above was completely outside of their window, screaming and flipping me the bird. He was mid-aged, so it's not like he was a teenager. I've had cigarette butts thrown inside my celica, I've had guns pointed at my face. Obviously, guns are not a common factor (thank goodness!) but since my accident in May, I have had PTSD, so the constant fear of not only that, and the nuts on the road, isn't comforting.

What on earth is wrong with people? What happened to make people act this way? This is insane. I should really get a dash cam one of these days, because some stories no one has believed me, it's been that bad.

Also, on a random note. I really need to find a better alcohol. On my 21st, I got started off on the wrong foot (Shocktop). Should not have listened to someone who drunk like a sailor during college.

It's a rush... And I caught him. I'm relatively new to the job so yea any "big catch" feels good. He's not at all a good person... Got a gun away from him.. Granted he'll just buy another but oh well.

Doesn't matter, the happiness was short lived. He was out of jail before I woke up after that shift. Kinda feels like a waist of time and not really worth the risk. Thinking I should have gone the firefighter route instead. Already put too much into this career.

I have no idea how biased your descriptions are here. They might be 100% factual, they might be completely biased, I don't know and I'm not assuming... But... At some point maybe you should think about the fact that you might be the odd person out here. The safest speed isn't the one posted on the sign if everyone around you is going a speed other than that. The safest speed is that of everyone around you. You can't hit something that's traveling in the same direction at the same speed as you are.

If you start driving like the people around you, you just might find that it is less stressful. After driving in a few places that have very different styles of driving I've found that the old saying "when in Rome..." is exceptionally true when it comes to driving. Driving in Souda Bay made driving in NYC look like a quite walk along the shore of a deserted island. But once I started driving as aggressively as everyone else, it was actually much safer because everyone around me was expecting me to drive that way. Where I live and work I basically move through three different styles of driving. Fairly aggressive in the city near work, calm on the highways to my suburban town, and then damn near country bumpkin slow when I get off the highway. If I drive like I'm in the city the whole way, I can cut about 5 minutes off my commute time. If I drive like I'm in the town the whole way I'll add about 10 minutes. But in both cases by the time I get where I'm going I'm seething with rage and have narrowly avoided a hand full of accidents. If I just drive like the people around me its a much calmer and safer drive.

Heard on the news there's supposed to be a rotorcraft display at the bowl game on Sunday.
So probably staging.

I wasn't talking about the law I was talking about safety and the effect on stress it can have. I also wasn't talking only about speeding. There's a few places on my way to work that traffic goes slower than the posted speed limit and rightfully so. Trying to go the posted speed limit through those areas is just as dangerous as trying to travel at the posted speed limit through areas where everyone else around you is going faster. This doesn't apply as much to more structured highways where the fast lane is going one speed, the middle lane another, and the slow lane yet another speed. There, usually anyway, it's fine to just go the speed limit in the slow lane as that's what's expected. If you tried that in the fast lane however...well, there are laws against that. If you drive a truck in most areas your not allowed in the fast lane. And a lot of areas have signs saying keep right accept to pass. This also doesn't apply outside of high traffic congestion times.

edit, If it really is the same for everyone else, then they to would be doing the speed limit. And again traveling at the speed of traffic would be safest.

Some people get road rage. Me, well I assume no one knows how to drive. So I'm never disappointed nor surprised. And actually knowing how to change lanes to pass vs. Tailgating and cursing
Makes all the difference.

I get what you mean, and I'm not calling myself a perfect driver. I'm by no means a perfect driver. No one is. Also, in some (not all, mind you) of these situations, I wasn't the one driving, should've added in that fact but I had a eggo waffle calling my name that needed my attention at said moment.
ANYWAYS. Point being, most of the road rage could be solved by people just leaving their house a little earlier. If they don't want to be late, leave earlier. Simple.
I'm not going to go down a sharp turn at 60mph because the other people are in a rush and that's the speed they would go. If they want to kill themselves, that's fine, but I won't.
I'm not disagreeing completely though, sometimes I agree some exceptions are to be made about driving habits and "keeping up," but sometimes, no.
(Reminds me of that one topic in the FRS section, about an SUV trying to keep up on the twisties, body roll and all. Anyone remember that?)
