I remember (vaguely, hence the edit) that the Genesis sedan used both Aisin and ZF autos, depending on whether it was the V6 or V8 engine.

Either way, it's not a Hyundai-specific or Hyundai-made transmission so sourcing parts shouldn't be significant.

OK, so you are talking about aftermarket support?
If someone wants to maintain their Genesis Coupe in an OEM manner, then surely it is not any worse - especially with their lengthy warranty - than other manufacturer's sporty cars.

Damn near anything not American is going to expensive, comparatively. Japanese parts aren't exactly cheap either, but they are easy to get, more or less.

I think turbokits is putting together a kit for the 3.8. Not sure about pricing but puts out around +150whp/140ft-lbs on a stock motor @ 8.65 psi on a Mustang dyno.

Will be exciting to see how that turns out now that the 3.8 is DI.
That's the tragedy of this car, IMO. The old 2.0 was the tuner platform simply because it was turbo and based off the 4G63 (same block?). The 3.8 engine was clearly better from a hollistic approach, yet the aftermarket shows that it simply wasn't as popular because of what's involved in adding F/I when there's already a F/I option available from the factory.

I completely agree, Hyundai/Kia aftermarket SUCKS when compared to Subaru. They just dont have a community to support it like other companies do.

You also have to consider this was Hyundai's first attempt at a true sportscar. Tiburon just didn't count imho. You need to give the aftermarket time to develop. S. Korea has quite a few tuners turning out interesting things for the GC. If this car stays around parts will increase. Especially if Kia gets their own coupe as well.

please don't muddle the arguments with generic terms like "true sports car"

that's a whole other can of worms and for someone like me, that statement pretty much reads that the GC is Hyundai's attempt at making an S4 Lancia Delta or a Lotus Exige :/

That is not a generic term. I don't mean a true sports car ala a Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin. I meant for Hyundai it was their first attempt at a sports car as the Tiburon was a poor attempt. Your definition of a sports car could very well be different.

I'm sure Toyota/Subaru/etc. owners were saying the same exact thing 40 yrs ago. Give them some time. It'll catch on. I doubt the Korean auto industry is going anywhere.

Exactly. Then it wouldn't be the Korean auto industry anymore ;-)

4B11, the new Evo motor, was a joint project between Hyundai, Chrysler and Mitsubishi.

Ah yes, thanks. I recall now. I also think the Mitsubishi boys weren't fond of the 4B11T when it came out, but managed to persevere and make lemonade out of the lemons. High HP lemonade...

I wonder if the people who actually modify their cars actually track them? I don't track at all so that's why I like a certain P2W ratio and could care less about being much faster on public roads. I think Hyundai position both 2013 GC 2.0T/3.8 as being fast enough for most people out of the box and I like that they did that. I remember test driving a 3500+lb 06 G35 coupe with 280hp/270tq and I loved how quick that thing felt and went. Now Hyundai's base model GC is 3400+ lbs with 274hp/270tq so I figure the base model should be more than acceptable and the 3.8 GDI will just be icing on the cake. But I would still take the 310 hp 3.8 non GDI engine and its exterior looks.
