I'm debating on a medium to loud exhaust, the nameless 5inch muffler axleback.
From what i've read and heard in video's it's about what i want before adding headers. The question is, since this leaves the mid pipe stock and smaller could i have a local shop fab up a 2.5 inch add a decent resonator and bring the level back down? Will a resonator reduce volume or is it more specific frequencies? For reference I'd like it less than an N1 on an sti. More like the q300 on those cars. (I haven't heard exhaust on these cars in person because only a handful have them in my area)

It's the axleback that needs more muffling. It's almost like any dual canister design, but those mufflers are tiny in comparison to most. My recommendation: Header(catted or catless, need to make a choice on this) Overpipe (Pick your flavor or the Nameless Catted DP/OP w/ Helmholtz) Front pipe (catted or resonated(non Helmholtz) with a catless header) Front pipe (Any type with a catted header, preferably catted or resonated to control volume) Stock midpipe is fine, you could even have a shop add an additional resonator or use a giant one like Perrin's in a custom 2.5" midpipe The Nameless Axleback is the loud portion. The only changing that is swapping catbacks. It's difficult because you have to gauge the sound based on when the header goes on, and work from there. |

Yeah currently i have the 2.5 catted w/ Helmholtz resonator dp.
I'm thinking nameless or JDL el catless headers. I want to drop weight since adding power is hard without FI. All of the light cbe are crazy loud. Maybe sp elite greddy....3lbs lighter lol

your setup is going to sound pretty loud specially with the JDL header. adding a resonator wont change much specially with the nameless axleback. you will get lots of drone at highway speeds.
a Q300 is really quiet. thats what i have and i love it! not too loud but you can hear it. no rasp no drone just a nice quiet tone all around. to me a q300 or a greddy spelite are perfect for this cars but then i am an old fart that listens to NPR in the morning. 10 years ago i had an Evo2 on my EP3 and i loved it now the EVO/N1/nameless are way too loud for me. im getting old. |

The Nameless axleback is only loud in the muffler delete or 4" muffler configs. The 5" muffler configuration is probably better able to handle noise than oem when you add a header. Just make sure you keep stock mid pipe & go with a Nameless FP/OP with HFC & hemholtz resonator, & your exhaust should sound just fine & not be too loud.

Did you have the sound tube deleted?

Sound tube? Like you could hear any intake noise with the exhaust that loud.
![]() I think it was still installed at that time though. That video was with the windows up, rear seat up and all kinds of sound deadening in the rear of the car. |

That probably added to the noise, thus why it was so much louder when you got onto the throttle.

Would it obstruct flow if i had a custom midpipe with a small muffler and resonator.?
Thinking if it ends up being too loud i could always add a small muffler prior if it doesn't rob power or f up the tone
