In our house we have both. My wife has a 2011 MX5 and I have the FR-S. But I do miss her previous '95 Miata.

I have an MR2 Spyder and love it! If the sun is out the top is down, even in the winter. Living in Hawaii it was fantastic and no need to ever have the top down. I typically use the velocity school of rain management. Now that I am in the Blue Ridge Mountains (it rains here AND has a winter) I find I have to put the top up once in a while. I'm a 4 seasons open top guy!
In fact, I am searching for a good deal on an FR-S or a C5 Coupe, I can't decide if I can live with a non-open top car (the FR-S) hence I am looking at the 'Vette too. If the sun is out and I have to drive my wife's car it is painful not being in the wind. My background is motorcycles, CB500 four was my first street bike followed by a Yamaha XS750D (the triple). I then had a CX650Turbo and an RG500r when I lived in Canada, the RG was unobtanium here. I actually sold the RG at Daytona Speedway for $5000 in a brown paper bag! I lived/and raced in Japan and had 4 NSR250R's, raced the NSR's and a Ducati 750 Star for a shop near Tokyo, then raced a TLR1000R in unlimited superbike - fun times! Had to give up racing when I moved to Maui but the MR2 and SCCA Solo events were kinda fun......... |

My well loved '01 VFR800 has been parked for a while since my kids came along and I worried that my love of riding twisty roads on it was a high risk guilty pleasure and not the most responsible thing for me to do until they got older:
Driving the BRZ now on the same exact twisty motorcycle roads is different but just as fun, so now so I'm torn whether to keep the bike to enjoy in a few years when the kids are older and I don't feel so guilty, or sell it and just be happy with only the BRZ that has taken it's place as the fun ride, in almost all circumstances, but with less risk that I get hurt from some idiot turning left in front of me. I've been down before with a previous bike (CBR600F4) due to some idiot not seeing me, so I know it has a high chance to happen again no matter how paranoid I ride. I'm just glad the BRZ handles so well to the point that it's making this a decision at all, and that's saying a lot for how great it is. |

Who dumps a VFR? That's crazy talk.
It's paid for, right? I've got 2 bikes beside the FRS. Not planning on any garage clearance for the time being.

Perhaps it's my beat up body, but I'd rather hop in the FR-S than on this these days.

I had no real good reason for the switch except I wanted to switch it up and try something else. My last NB was an awesome car, 260whp using a FMII kit, standalone, 550cc, full suspension, Wilwoods, 2way LSD, etc etc etc
![]() ![]() I absolutely still love Miatas though, and I still get my Miata fix since my girlfriend recently just picked up a 10AE NB a few months ago. Pictured with my FR-S. ![]()

I got rid of a '99 Miata MB that was my daily driver for the last 5 years and a Lotus that I drove for fun. Needed a back seat as I am raising a 12 year old for someone and have grand and great grand kids. I will never be without a bike, have owned 110 of them over the years and the FRS makes the 310th car I have owned and/or restored. I currently still have a Porsche 928 for fun but the FRS is just as quick and is just great value for the money and of all the cars that I have owned it handles as well as many of them, even the mid engined ones. Plus it is averaging 32 around town. Bought a Whiteout FRS that was a Toyota buy back. the first owner dogged it and blew the engine with 600 miles on it. Toyota replaced the engine and gave me full warranty plus a year from the day I bought it and I only paid $20,500 for it. There is a lot more room in it than the Miata (6 ft 300 lbs) and it drives like it is on rails. Reminds me of the '93 twin turbo Supra I had without as much power. It is just a great car and does anything I ask it to and you can ride the edge of the envelope and still feel confident about it's limits.

No problem, I am pretty old especially compared to most on this forum I am sure. I did take a test recently that said mentally I am age 27. I started turning wrenches very young.

Every MR2 produced including my favorites, two MR2 Spyders, an '00 Silver/Red cloth, first one imported into the Pacific Northwest, and an '01 British Racing Green/Tan leather, both 5M/T's.
I got the first Spyder after retiring from both street and dirt biking after weighing the laws of probabilities vs. disabled or worse from a couple of offs, neither my fault. It was the usual fleet of Japanese one, two and four cylinder machines with a mix of one, two and three cylinder British bikes and a BMW airhead. Skipped the Italians and Harleys. The bike I miss the most and would buy again despite breaking down like clockwork was a Norton Commando Production Racer.
