That tick is very loud on my car, when under load or accelerating in 3rd and 4th it is most noticeable, but the exact same noise....had it looked at once and they told me it was my after market intake, so I swapped that for factory in August, noise still there, 2 months ago I put on a new hood, went in this morning for service and told them the noise that they blamed on the intake was still there, and now they blame it on the hood.

Just a small update:
The noise, while still present, seems to have reduced in volume by about 50%. I have to turn the radio off, roll up the windows and focus to actually hear it from the cabin now. It's much less intrusive now, but still there... |

Is this the infamous "cricket" sound? I have it on my BRZ only when it's cold out in the morning. Doesn't bother me much. I usually have ESPN radio on all time so can't really hear it. I was told that it doesn't have much negative impact on the engine so didn't care much after knowing that.

No, if you listen to the sound clips provided you should be able to tell they are pretty different. This noise is more of a mechanical clapping noise, and it only shows up when the engine is cold and under a load of anywhere between 800-1800rpms
I had the crickets with my old pump, but they would only surface every once in awhile and only when the car was fully warmed up. They were not detectable under any type of engine rev/load |
