headlight leveler

So I have been meaning to ask about this for a while now, what is the deal with the most useless option in the world that these cars have......the "headlight leveler" dial!!! I read about it in the manual, and it goes on about how if you have a heavy load, or are towing a load, you can adjust the headlight level accordingly. Really?......really?? I was out on a quiet country road last night, in the pitch black, with no cars around and decided to play with the different settings.....thinking maybe I should do this since my trunk has a bunch of heavy sandbags for extra weight. I have always kept it at zero, so I started to adjust....level 1....can hardley notice a difference.....2.....hmmm, maybe a slight change, but hard to tell.....3.....4.....5.....well now my headlights are pointing down more and I can see LESS of the road in front of me....well that's no good....back to zero.....yep, that's better! So again, with all of the amazing things this car has, and can do, why the deuce does it come with such a silly option?? Did they really think people were going to tow heavy loads with this car?? Maybe a better stereo could have been paid more attention to? I woulkd rather have a trunk organizer than it come with this useless option!
Any thoughts, or am I just being a bit too cynical?

Personally I really like it, reminds me of the old JDM and European models with manually adjustable headlights, its like auto leveling ones in newer cars but you can change it yourself. I've played with mine in the dark and in my garage and they are quite adjustable, handy for keeping them down low in the city, but up high on then highway in the dark.

Yeah, I guess.....it's just that I don't want to have to remember to dial it down or up depending on where I am, and the car is so low already, just seems a little useless. I wish those big pick-up trucks had them when the pull behind you at a stoplight, those things beam right in through the back window!!!!

I dial my down a couple clicks if I'm just driving around town, keep them out of oncoming traffic's eyes. Out on the open road though, I wish there was just 1 more click up, the low beams on this car are pretty short, and the light stops dead at the limit. High's are great though when I get to use them!

@Hardy. I think you could put the at '0' and then adjust them (with tools) to be a little higher? I haven't checked if this is possible, but I think it should be.

Like another poster said, I drive in the city at 1-2 and when I'm out in the country I put them up to level. I noticed a lot of people flashing their high beams at me when I first got the car, and it made me ridiculously paranoid about cops. Then I realised they were just complaining about the HID's.

In Europe if the car comes with HIDs they are mandatory to have washers and automatic levelers so it doesn't blind people when going up the hill.

The manual leveler is hillarious when I found out it is also motorized like WTF go the extra mile and put in the auto leveling arms.

People stopped flashing me after I lowered the car.

I use it from time to time, but I agree 3,4,5 are extremely low.

The levelling action is Really good for heavy fog or blizzard conditions at night. Fog lights aren't powerful enough in my opinion and almost useless with a car this low. My truck in the other hand, fog lights are very useful.

The detents are fairly bad. 0-1 is actually quite large in terms of projecting distance. I've carefully rolled it slowly between 0-2 and the motor is capable of very fine adjustment, but the dial settings are crap.

Would love to see a mod where the adjustment 0-2 is redistributed from 0-5. Or a new dial with adjustment from 0-15

I leave it at level 1 for city driving. Am I being douchey? I had mine set at 3 when I first got my car from the dealership but didn't like how low the lights projected.

I use it so my headlights don't shine into my girlfriend's parents windows when I am leaving at 3am. It is a very useful dial.
