I seriously doubt any of the off-the-shelf turbo kits will *fail* on track. My concern is the loss of output as they heat soak.

I also want 250-270whp. The only reason I'd even consider a SC over a TC is because of the early onset of torque down low. I want the earliest boost possible, therefor smaller, cheaper, FI kits (win win). However I think the overhead of a turbo, just in case I do want to upgrade my torque converter and take it to a drag strip later on down the road I can and also add hp with supporting mods (I think the AVO turbo is rated at like 360 crankhp while the base kit only puts down about 272chp) where with a base SC (think Innovate) my overhead is almost shot right out of the box unless I use E85, which is so inconvenient for me I don't even consider it a possibility. This thread has been a great read, and while I'll probably never follow through on a FI kit, pretty darn good info here for anyone interested in tuning for forced induction.

Great thread. Luckily for me I've already told myself I am waiting for the warranty to be up before I do any FI, which gives me a couple years. Although you do have me changing my mind on the SC vs turbo choice again... I talked myself into a SC but here we go again. AVO sounds pretty reliable, especially for the price (and I love the mechanical oil pump).

This area is a pain in the ass for every engine to control leaking. Head, block, chain cover intersection is probably the most common leak area.

Would the heat soaking be different if you held the car at full boost for the same amount of time? or does the repeated cooling and heating cycle compound the heat within the engine bay?

If you don't have access to E85, your limited to what....a little over 300 whp unless you want to introduce serious turbo lag. So at that point, I chose SC so I wouldn't have to deal with any of the problems turbos can introduce and save money. SC problems seem more manageable anyways so I'll just max out the potential of the SC kit and get as close to 300 as I can.

has anyone seen a TMIC turbo kit for this car yet?? would it even be possible...

I would buy it (if it produced some decent numbers) and pair it with this hood...:

http://www.rksport.com/product-p/rk-435.htm

done correctly, it could be to the same effect of the hood bump on the E92 M3

In that case, drive a lot and pass your Mileage point

Going back to the OP I think the Jackson Racing kit is the best setup for a DD.
  • What can $5,000 get someone in a solid FI build?
The "factory tuned" kit is $5k +/- taxes/shipping and if you are paying for installation.

  • What necessary hardware/tune upgrades should a DD be looking at along with their FI kit purchase?
For a DD the kit is complete out of the box. But if you want to track the car then you want to get an engine oil cooler.

  • What kits will provide someone with a Daily Driver/OEM-like quality/application and experience?
In terms of OEM quality, Jackson Racing has been around for long time and knows their stuff that even Honda went to them for their CR-Z supercharger kit.

  • Is there a FI application that is considered safe? So that the car may have the potential to reach the long term (100,xxx miles give or take on their car)?
There are still cars out there that are running the older Jackson Racing eaton kits. My brother has a Rotrex kit on his car designed by Oscar Jackson, and it has over 100,000 supercharged miles and it has given him no problems.

Plus I see your in CA, and that CARB sticker would be a huge plus. Definitely after the 5 year mark, who wants to keep uninstalling and reinstalling for every smog check. I think a DD shouldn't have a hassle of worrying about being pulled over or not being compliant.

Does the Jackson racing kit, along with these other kits provide equivalent airflow to each piston? I know the innovate does but is that a concern or do most of these kits, as mentioned above, cover all that so everything is balanced?

The JR kit uses the factory intake manifold.
