Just got my OFT and i'm super stoked excited to give it a shot when we're not in blizzard conditions here in Minnesota.

One area that hasn't been very clear to me after going through the getting started guide, FAQ's, then some cursory searching on FT86Club is what exactly is a stage 1 tune, stage 2 tune, etc.. There are a lot of great maps but I can't seem to locate much of a description as to what a stage 1,2,3 tune are.

stage 1 is stock car to slight mods that do not include cattless header
stage 2 is cattless header (EL = equal length, UEL =unequal length) to full exhaust
stage 2 e85 EL is stock car to full exhaust
stage 2 e85 UEL is for UEL header to full exhaust

Stage 1: Factory Headers
Stage 2: Catless headers (there are equal length and unequal length tunes).

Both support other exhaust mods, drop in filters, lightweight pulleys. There is no stage 3.

Just for clarification sake, the above description is applicable to open flash stages only. Granted this is an open flash topic but ft86club was referenced and their stages quite possible are different. I know perrins's stages are very different than shiv's so just make sure whatever stage you flash is what you intended.

Is there any official documentation on these stages? Found it a bit odd there seems to be nothing on their website about it.

It's in the release notes when you download the maps.

Vishnu FA20 OTS Map Release Notes

OTS Map Requirements:

Stage 1- For vehicles equipped with original header. Other exhaust modifications also compatible. Stock airbox (with or without aftermarket drop-in panel filter) also recommend. Premium grade fuel only.

Stage 2- For vehicles equipped with aftermarket cat-less headers. Other exhaust modifications also compatible. Stock airbox (with or without aftermarket drop-in panel filter) also recommend. Premium grade fuel only.

OTS Map Revision History:
9/17/13
v1.1 Changes:
-Revised VVT mapping in the 2800-3800rpm range for improved torque. Modified fine learning load
ranges. Minor fuel and ignition table re-mapping.

10/03/13
v1.2 Changes:
-Revised VVT mapping for enhanced knock resistance in the 2500-3500rpm range at partial throttle.
-Added 6AT USDM ROM support for ZA1J700D, ZA1J900D and ZA1JA01D. ZA1JA00D will be added once we receive a copy of the ROM from a customer.
-Added XDF file for 6AT ROM (ZA1J___D v1.0beta.xdf). As the name of the file suggests, it isn't complete. Many of the table X and Y axises aren't define yet. To determine X and Y axis values when tuning, you can look at the 6MT XDF (ZA1J___C v2.4.xdf) for reference.
-Add stock tune ROM file in each ROM folder. This is useful for comparison purposes (i.e., comparing stock mapping to the mapping in our OTS tune files). Please not that this is not necessarily the stock ROM.

10/23/13
v1.31beta Changes:
-Revised Ignition Advance mapping for all tune files for improved knock resistance.
-Updated XDF files to include DTC limits for MAF and MAP sensors (for turbo/sc use)
-Added the missing ZAJAOOD files. The XDF file for USDM 6AT (ZA1J___D v1.2.xdf) is still incomplete as some of the tables have undefined X and Y axis values.
-Added Stage 2 mapping for all ROM types. This is intended to be used in cars with catless headers (equal-length or unequal length). Use of the stock airbox is also recommended.
-Removed AirRaid Intake maps since the stock airbox provides more stable MAF readings. Shortening/ID enlarging of the air intake duct/snorkel (behind bumper cover) also yields additional improvements.

11/01/13
v1.31
-Removed "Beta" status of v1.31 maps

11/04/13
v1.33beta Changes:
-Revised all XDFs to fix a value limiter in the Rev Limit parameters. Prior to this, editing this value would result a 3000RPM rev limiter.
-Revised all XDFs to correct a previously incorrect conversion equation for Transient Ignition Retard table.
-Revised all maps to account for the previous error in the Transient Ignition Retard conversion equation. This change will result in less transient ignition retard.
-Revised Stock Mapping ZA1JA00D ROM file
-All 6MT maps are now based upon the latest A01C ROM file. Prior to this, 6MTs maps were based upon the A00C with transient ignition mapping values copied from the A01C ROM file. All 6AT maps are still based upon he latest A01D ROM file.
-Added tuned map and XDF support for G series ROMs. G series XDF is not yet complete and does not define all tables. To view only defined tables, to go the upper right corner of Tuner Pro and select "Show Up To Level 1". Undefined tables are designated Level 2.

11/18/13
v1.34beta Changes:
-Revised VVT Exhaust mapping for more power above 7200rpm in all tuned ROMs
-Implemented Soft Rev limiter feature in all tuned ROMs
-Revised Idle Target mapping for lower engine speed during cold start
-Added E85 maps for US Market ROMS (C and D series). This map is intended for cars running straight E85 fuel. As with all of our maps, this is intended for cars equipped with stock airbox housing. Aftermarket filter and modified duct is recommended for maximum power. Please note that this map was calibrated on a car with aftermarket carless header. It has not been tested on vehicles with stock header.
-Updated XDF files for all ROMs. Non-US XDF files still aren't complete but they are slightly more developed than last release.

11/27/13
v1.34 Changes:
-Beta status removed

12/11/13
v1.40 Changes:
-Added Stage 1 and Stage 2 map support for ZA1JA01N (Asian market) ROM
-Added Stage 1 and Stage 2 map support for new 2014 BRZ/FR-S (ZA1JB00C) ROM
-In USDM E85 ROMs (Stage 2 E85 ZA1JA01C and Stage 2 E85 ZA1JA01D), we now differentiate between cars with Equal Length (EL) and Unequal Length (UEL) headers. The Stage 2 EL E85 tune is renamed (formerly Stage 2 E85) but unchanged from the v1.34 release. However, the Stage 2 UEL E85 tune is new and completely different. It is highly developed and has only been tested in cars with the OpenFlash UEL header. It is considered Beta status and should be used only be those who are sufficiently comfortable with data-logging and analysis.
-Stage 2 EL E85 maps have been approved for use in completely stock vehicles running E85.
-All non-USDM and USDM-ZA1JB00C (2014 BRZ/FR-S) tuned ROMs and considered Beta status.
-Adjusted checksum values so all ROMs can be opened in RomRaider without displaying checksum error.
-Re-enabled diagnostics routines for o2 sensor faults in Stage 2 and Stage 2 E85 maps. If you trigger these faults, it is due to an exhaust leak at your header flanges from not replacing gaskets when you installed your header.

12/12/13
v1.41 Changes:
-Replaced Stock Mapping ZA1JB00C ROM. Originally, it was erroneously a tuned ROM.

12/14/13
v1.42 Changes:
-Added support (tuned ROM and developmental XDF files for TunerPro) for ZA1JA01I and ZA1JA010 ROMs.
-Removed Beta status for all Stage UEL E85 ROMs.
-Revised cranking enrichment tables for all E85 ROMs to improved cold weather cold start performance.

My dealer just updated the stock ROM due to my car almost stalling because of the RPM drop. Does anyone know the procedure to erasing my old stock ROM from the OFT so I can read the new one? I know the OFM has a delete data button, but I'm hesitant to use it until I know it only wipes my data. I would hate to wipe the whole device and render it useless.

If you flashed back to stock rom first you can just use ofm to delete data. It only clears the rom info. It retains what you need to remarry and will build from the dev and you are rock and roll. I did this on Saturday. Same scenario. I went from 700c to b01c. I deleted the data, loaded the 1.5dev and presto

I want to make sure i do this right:
1. Delete data
2. Read new stock rom
3. Load 1.5 dev file for new rom.
4. Flash new map

Did you load the stock Rom back on the ecu from the OFT before the dealer flashed the new Rom?

Yes you have to do so or the oft remains married to the old rom and you can't delete the data. It's a good idea to always flash to stock pre dealership visit.

I flashed to stock
Deleted data on ofm
Loaded new dev
Had car serviced and flashed to new cal
Plugged in the oft and it was exactly like a fresh install
It read my new rom
Generated new tunes
Then I loaded my tune

Even if he didn't flash back to stock prior to the dealership updating his ECU software, it's no big deal. Just make note of what new software the dealership loaded. He can just flash back his old software (original) file. Then, from that point onwards just use tuned files that update you to new software. This isn't possible with the newest v1.54 .dev maps yet. But it will be soon.

I know that silly, I was asking terrapin if he did. If he didn't there might be some issues since he won't be able to wipe his OFT.
