Why are you using fiberglass? It will weigh substantially more than the OEM aluminum hood. Hell, the carbon fiber hoods that are produced even weigh a couple more pounds than the OEM hood!

Not trying to flame, but I work with metal and composites for a living and this just seems, as another poster put it, ghetto.. but best of luck to you. Prove us wrong with results I suppose.

When I read the title,I thought the exact same thing.
The BRZ hood is absolutely the lightest hood I have ever seen.

I just switched the hood on my Porche racecar last night from OEM Steel to Fiberglass, and that was like night & day, but Al to FG???

He DID state that is was to make it less dent prone, but what would be causing hood dents?

Anyway, I have been considering making some larger & more elaborate CF parts, so I am always game for watching how someone makes large FG/CF molds....

the carbon hood on my brz is a few oz heavier. not a substantial amount of weight gain that you would be able to notice.

the fiberglass hood wont weigh much more then the oem hood. maybe 2 or 3 lbs at most. prob only a pound more. most important IT WONT DENT!

aluminium hood is no good for me.
my car sits in the driveway getting attacked by acorns all day/night falling off the tree in front my house. this caused about 30 something tiny dents in the stock hood. i was pissed, had the car for about a month babying it and see that one day. i dont ever want an aluminium hood on the car again.

how is making a glass hood ghetto?
