Random question, but does anyone know what this harness cable is for on the stock brz HU? It isn't used for my aftermarket HU & I have identified the other unplugged harnesses (antenna, xm antenna, antenna power, USB & aux in, & GPS). There's just this one left:

It doesn't make you more important or get you a better deal by dealing with the owner. In most cases you will pay more for the same service.

Woah Jeff hold on there. I didn't intend on anything negative with me saying that, I mean I like getting to know the owners of the business for what kind of people they are and how personally vested they are in customer service, if the owner is unattached or uncaring, then maybe their product and service will be sub par. When I said what you're quoting I was at the time mentally comparing experiences I've had before with a car audio shop I bought my head unit from. Audio Express just had some college looking guy who didn't even know what was different between two head unit I was looking at and didn't give me even a minute of his time after that and just went back to the desk to text on his phone. So I went to Sounds Good to Me and met the owner and it was totally opposite experience.

There's nothing wrong with salesmen if they actually care but theres also those who do it just to sell product but not necessarily the best product for the situation, I've just PERSONALLY found that owners want return customers so they do more than just sell the product they sell their SERVICE.

Also, why you take any offense to something anyone says isn't really necessary, it's my opinion, so what?

And knowing me, if I pay more for a small business mom/pop shop product but get more personal service compared to a big brand but less service, why is that bad? Big brand stores have so many sales that losing one customer cause of bad service isn't important, they'll just get another tomorrow.

I provided what the guy asked for in my reply on TINT, a place I got my tint done and gave the reasons for it including info on tint and my opinion as well.

Maybe what I said was a generalization but still to get offended by what I said is a bit unnecessary I think.

P.S. My family does own a small business with 8 stores in AZ and we once had a relative of my aunt steal some of our business secrets and opened their own stores similar to ours. They collapsed after a year because the products they sold weren't as high quality as ours, and because their service was lousy, since their owner was basically a thief making a business off of a stolen business plan.

In the end, all I care about is my car and getting the best quality products and services, if I could work on everything when it came to my car I'd do it myself because I only really trust myself, but when I can't do it, I put my trust in someone I feel cares about my car almost as much as I do, even if it costs more.

It's normal. For some reason, aftermarket head units don't use all the same wiring as the factory harness does so there's generally one or two plugs that don't fit. I may be wrong but think I once heard that aftermarket companies are for some reason forbidden from using a plug like the one in your pic for copyright reason or something, so the aftermarket company has to use others. Or the plug you're holding is for a certain feature of the factory HU but aftermarket companies don't have the software to implement it, so they don't even bother making a plug for it. I can't remember exactly what the reason is.

But what is that plug FOR? B/c I'm no longer getting any audio from the door speakers.

That is the amp plug, as well as steering wheel controls on some vehicles.

The door subs are powered by the amp in the back near the spare tire, the head unit powers the other 6 speakers. So I'm guessing you unplugged it accidently or something.

Hook up the blue white or blue on your stereo to the power ant lead on the aftermarket harness. You dont have the amp turned on. Easy fix. If the deck has both blue with white stripe and blue use the one with white stripe because the blue is just power ant and that should go to the antenna adapters blue wire. Otherwise both ant adapter and blue wire of adapter goes to blue withe white stripe of ne stereo

I thought the power antenna lead on the aftermarket harness when to the black wire that's connected as a separate harness to the antenna harness. The harness adapter has a blue wire that is doubled into a pin beside it, and then a blue wire extending out from it, so basically it puts 2 signals from just one input. The blue wire is labeled "power antenna" on the wire itself. The Sony HU, of course, has the blue/white wire that's tagged with a label sticker as "remote turn on". I'm familiar with this, as it is used to wire directly to the remote turn on input on aftermarket amps. The aftermarket harness doesn't have a blue/white wire for remote turn on... at least not one labeled as such. So, I bet that doubled over line on the metra harness is for both powered antenna and remote turn-on from the remote turn-on lead from the Sony HU. Attached is a picture of the wiring harness layout of the Sony XAV-701HD. The sheet also has instructions on powering the remote antenna if there is one, but the harness from Sony doesn't have a dedicated powered antenna lead.

Also, the Metra harness had a orange/black lead for "Dimmer gnd". I'm guessing (most likely correctly) that this is just for HU's which receive the dimmer input from dimmer ground, not dimmer (+). Haven't had one yet that did that, though (since I've owned a car, I've owned 4 aftermarket HU's: 2 JVC's, a pioneer, and now this Sony). No biggie, just another item I noticed.

But I'll try this. It'll be nice to have SOME extra bass (though muddy and crummy) until this coming Saturday when the JL Amp, JL sub, JBL components, and JL 4" coaxials go in.

I think it was supposed to be left unplugged though, as the metra harness didn't have provision to fit this one. It's more than just remote amp turn on, as there's several pins there that are wired to something. Curiosity is definitely getting to me on what this particular harness is for. I'm pretty certain on what all the stock HU monitors and where it gets its data, and all those sources and outputs are accounted for (geo location and speed from the gps, radio from the antenna and it's powered wire, device input from the usb/aux-in cable, standard speaker and power harnesses, xm radio input from xm antenna in).

Maybe it's for connecting to the ecu for speed input, and for some reason it needs quite a few wires to determine that, just so it can say 'screw you' to dialing or texting or even getting to your contact list when the wheels are moving.
