I'm confused...if buying all-season tires, why would anyone consider anything other than the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's?

Countless sources confirm they out perform all other all-season tires, and even most summer tires.

Look, the as3's are excellent all around tires - i've driven them in the summer, in the rain, in the warm rain, winter rain (but still water), on the track hot, on the track cold - they're good.
The only time they fall short is when there's snow - as in I'm driving and it starts to snow...heavy. On the other hand - you can't really fault them for this since ALL all season tires will struggle with snow.

I'd say that if you're absolutely certain you'll not be driving in a sudden snow storm - go for the a/s3 - they handle freezing temps fine. (we're getting 9f here in Boston)
But if you're unfortunate enough to get caught when the forecast said clear skies but it ends up snowing - you're gonna have one hell of a time driving and doing your best not to spin out...
or maybe I'm just not a good snow driver :p

At any rate - as3's are great if you don't have to go through snow storms.

ContiDWS performed very well (proven by me) while driving home with 3-4" of snow and just drive respectively.

Stock AS Turanzas: I can confirm these suck in 4" of snow. Could not make it up a moderate incline. They did ok in 1-2" of snow and on plowed roads.

Another interesting thing I found. The car was much better getting underway with TC/VDC completely on. It felt like the nannies would individually brake a free-spinning rear wheel to redirect power to the other side which was helpful. Once moving, I would turn it off for some powerslides.

I was hoping for some snow here so I could learn/play some and see how
It handles.. But all we got are some cold ass temps and rain.. Which I am enjoying... Guess I shouldn't complain too much about the snow.. Down here in the Carolina's ... You're better off staying home when their is the slightest amount of the white stuff on the ground..

Haha it's fun but it takes a toll. My car is currently caked in salt. Makes me cringe seeing her like that. First warmish day, I'm going to hose her down.
