Thanks again!
Now I have the latest ECUFlash and the "write calibration and code area using OEM method" button is now highlighted so I assume I am ready to try. Last question (hopefully): If I write the OFT "Stage 1 ZA1JA01C" what will the Cal ID read if it gets read by the dealer? Hopefully just "ZA1JA01C". Finally - has anyone on this forum actually written one of the OFT ROMs using ECUFlash? I just want a warm fuzzy or two before I pull the trigger. |

Except in this case the "Fight Club" has spoken openly about how open their "flight club" products are and how users should have no trouble using their "fight club" products with other hardware.
If I have to jump through any more hoops than I have already I will tell people to just "Buy the damn fight club product" and forget the hassle of using the tactrix. For someone who makes over $100 an hour, spending over 50 hours trying to learn how to make the tactrix solution work is making less and less sense every day when the alternative works right out of the box for only 3X as much $$ |

AND I have been watching & waiting since September.... Even your simple explanation above: "Put the right definitions in the right places, correct the check sums and go." Is not explained in detail BTW - I Bought the tactrix because it can log innovate data. |

There is enough info to figure out how to make what you want work in a relatively short amount of time using the posts in this thread and the one linked in the op of this thread. It's all there. I know this because by most standards I'm a moron and I've had it working for awhile. You're missing something, are you making sure the definitions you are adding for ecu flash and rom raider are saved as .xml? Have you downloaded the appropriate definitions and put them in the right places? |

Maybe that is why I know enough to understand the risks doing this and that the documentation is in no way "comprehensive". ( I have personally witnessed "Bricking" a 500 million dollar spacecraft millions of miles from Earth) I understand that it is a DIY thread and the people making it all work are not highly paid automotive engineers work in a fancy office building. I appreciate the work they do. The POINT I was making is that IN HINDSIGHT I would probably just buy the OFT and be done with it. And I dont even know what "****swing about my income" means.... I guess you're just butt hurt that professionals get paid well??

Whoever's paying you $100/hour, I hope it's not for a technical position. It's really not that hard, and all the information you need has been repeated at least once in this thread.

I had a paid off house at 30, work my own hours and only answer to a checking balance. Doesn't mean it needs to be waved around on a forum to people that don't care. There are no gold stars for posting what you make or what your time is worth online. Quote:

the conversions in ECU Editor being wrong the padding or not padding the first X bytes Checksums being wrong More than one user "bricking their ECU" Saving in Bin vs Hex etc. , etc. I guess part of my frustration about the tactrix has nothing to do with Flashing and about logging innovate data without an OBD port, so the 50 hours was mostly trying to get the unit to do that. And I a am C&DH (command & data handling) engineer for NASA spacecraft that cost over $1 billion each. So I have not only "flashed" a LOT of expensive hardware, but I have done it to spacecraft that were a long ways away. My primary job is writing procedures for loading flight software. So as I said: maybe due to my job, I am overly anal about getting the instructions right instead of "just do it". |

Well maybe instead of arguing someone could try to explain it so a welder making $18 an hour like myself can understand it.

Hardest part is saving the definition files as .xml instead of as txt. |

Lol... Well I can figure the XML part out, still can't get it to work right. It keeps saying I'm trying to read an unknown ROM image. I've run into this issue before trying to get it to work on my old 09 WRX when those definitions just came out. I'm trying to read the OFT ROM's and I can do it just fine on RomRaider, just not on ECUflash. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself can do a write up in the DIY section?
