M235 reviews out

First drives are out now as the embargo lifted yesterday - check the US and Brit sites.

It looks like BMW hit it out of the park here, a winning combo of all-round performance and livability. Looking forward to a test drive to say the least.

Plus they're like $43k usd to start, not really great bang for your buck.

And when you say "to start" you mean like $47K+ in reality after a couple desirable options which most people would want (myself included). I could never buy a car like that. Hell I think an STI is way overpriced at mid 30s.

Agreed on the weight. A car that small that is performance oriented seems like it should weigh in at most around 3250 or less.

That really sucks. It was supposed to come in at around 3200 lbs like the Euro model, but instead the NA version got every option as standard. Shitty indeed.

Just like how the 1 series was somewhere around only 100lbs lighter than the 3 series before......

Bmw cars are getting too heavy.

VW/Audi on the other hand is still heavy but are trying to go lighter with new platforms.

Weight is definitely disappointing but that said there are heavier cars that handle well - it's more the subjective feel which would be the key criterion for me, and that can only be determined via a test drive.

There's always a premium to be paid for the BMW "experience", refinement, and subjective quality, but we Canadians are going to get a significantly better deal on the M235i than Americans given the current exchange rate and the announced pricing in both countries. Hell here it will cost less than the Sti and Evo 10 by a few thousand - not bad at all. And nearly all the options available which typically add thousands to every Bimmer will be ones most enthusiasts can do without - tech package, sunroof, auto tranny. One exception will be the M Performance LSD option.

Dimensions are very close to the e36 M3, but weight is about 330lbs more
However, a 1995 M3 would be about $55k in 2014 dollars, so I guess it's not a bad deal considering how BMW prices have been creeping up the past few years.... if only it was a couple of hundred pounds lighter...
