Just had to argue with the lead technician. Again they told me the chirping is normal and my VIN has the newest pump. I showed them the revised TSB showing that my VIN was prior to the new pump. The look on their faces was priceless. They acted like they've never even seen a TSB before. They were like, "what is that?". Then they proceeded to tell me that this would cover my car if I had chirping, but my car is chirp free. I said that I'd be happy to make a video showing my VIN and demonstrating the very loud chirping. The lead tech said, "that won't help you. Unless I hear it then we won't order the part."
I said, "I'm not asking for a fuel pump just for no reason. There's a TSB stating that vehicles prior to the VIN listed are under warranty for a replacement. Order the part like this paper tells you to." They are ordering the new fuel pump and will let me know when it arrives. Geez, shouldn't have to be such a fight to get something taken care of that's under warranty!! UPDATE: They actually have all the parts in stock. They are going to hold everything to the side until I come back to have the fuel pump replaced. Because of work I won't be available again until Jan 30th...so guess I just gotta wait. I'll update if anything else comes up. Part of me a little hesitant to believe they have a new revised pump in stock. I sorta feel like they're stupid enough to just replace it with an old pump they have sitting there instead of ordering a new part. ANOTHER UPDATE: Decided to cross check park numbers and the fuel pump assembly did not match the revised part number. They were going to put an old pump in there! Thanks God I checked part numbers before leaving. The parts dept is calling Subaru HQ now because they don't believe the TSB I handed them. They told me, "you can't believe everything you read off the Internet." I replied, "It's officially from Subaru. It's not just a form a random person made." So they have to call Subaru HQ to make sure this TSB is legit. Also, right when I went out to my car and started it the chirping was loud as ever. I thought about getting that stupid lead tech out so he can hear the chirps, but at this point they're already trying to fix it...so no need for me to take steps backwards and go back to proving the issue...although I might just to show him that he's an idiot. Update (hopefully last): Parts manager wasn't able to get a hold of Subaru HQ, so he said just go ahead and order me the new part (16625JB010). Finally I feel like I'm getting somewhere... ANOTHER DAMN UPDATE: They told me the ordered the new pump and everything was good to go. I asked for a printed copy showing the revised part number and now all of a sudden my order was accidentally closed. Sooo...they're placing a new order for the new revised parts and getting me a printed receipt showing exact matching part numbers. Idiots. Sooo glad I didn't just leave without paperwork showing the new part number. I can already imagine coming back and them acting like "well the paper shows this old pump part number...blah blah blah". Hope someone else reading this learns what to expect when you take your car in.

Car was delivered on 1/1/14 and I've got ~1200 miles on it already, never heard any crickets
. Running only your typical CA 91 gas. I do hear an interesting "marching" sound from the engine bay during low rpm idle though.

And to top it off...they washed my car without me knowing it...and I have swirls galore all over my hood now. They seriously can't do anything right. No wonder so many people avoid going to the dealership.

That sucks. I've been to dealership twice so far and successfully warded them off from touching the paint. Or should I say scratching the paint.

Thankfully I have a SWP, otherwise these swirls would be out of control. Should be able to buff out. :/

unfortunatly guys incase people are still thinking this new pump is a permanant fix, it's not.
The Oct. 17th tsb for subaru, part # 16625JB010 now chirps for me just as loud if not louder than the one that came originally with my car. so yea youll be in cricketless bliss for a while (4k for me) but they'll come back... they always come back just thought i'd update, heres hoping they are working on an actual fix! i cant imagine the money theyre dishing out on constantly replacing these things. |

+1. My replacement HPFP that was installed mid November provided 1 month of quiet operation. Now the pump chirps on an intermittent basis. It can get loud and other times it makes an air puffing sound almost like the sound an air compressor makes.
No choice but to live with it until yet another TSB is released with another new HPFP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Did you consider that the intermittent nature of the chirps may be related to gas quality/brand? It sure is in my case and I saw it mentioned a few times around this forum. Then I started paying attention to the noise level of the chirps relative to where I had filled up last. Bingo... Fill up at some Vallero/Tower cheapo station and it's a cricket fest after the engine is warmed up. Go to Chevron and quiet as can be...

I fill up at the same station, nothing but Shell V Power 93,
and the chirps come and go randomly. I just had the latest pump installed Thursday, so we shall see what happens.

I've read mixed results with the new insulated pump. I figure it's a step forward at least since it has a changed internal fuel passage, changed plunger stopper, and changed pulsation dampener. Even if it only helps a little, then I'll take it!
And usually I fill up with Shell or Valero 93, but I guess I'll also keep an eye out at where I'm filling up and if the crickets are less or more noticeable. Didn't think to pay attention to that until now. Thanks for mentioning it!

Figured I'd post these. Here are some closer up pics of the insulation on my fuel pump along with a video I posted a while back.
![]() ![]() ![]() [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd02vWy-c0g"]Fuel Pump Now Insulated - YouTube[/ame] Hope this helps. Not sure how many dealers actually are doing this. This is a rubber like foam material that muffles the crickets. I've definitely heard them, but they are almost hidden by normal engine noise. It really helps till we get a pump that just doesn't chirp at all. Just for reference, I have the same Oct. 17th pump on the last TSB. I was one of the first that had it start chirping within 250 miles. |
