BMW'S "Built your own" is up and running for 228i and M235i. No manual transmission for the 228i.
And get this: Optional manual for the M235i for $0 ! So if get the MT you don't get to PAY LESS... that's new (feels like BMW charges the AT anyway).

![]() It looks like a nice car, which should be expected since the 1-series is a nice car and this is basically just a continuation of the current 1-series. Still don't consider it a BRZ competitor if purchased new, since a poverty-spec one (only option I added was the upgraded headlights, because they're actually worth having) has fewer features than my BRZ (no heated bits, no keyless entry, etc) and still clocks in at $34k MSRP. By the time you've got a 228 set up to the point where it really wants to devour corners, you'll probably have spent $40-45k: the stock wheels, tyres, and half the suspension bits will probably be throwaways. I've ridden around in a friend's 328 which has BWM's turbo four-- it honestly feels like a nice little engine: torquey and makes nice sounds with an aftermarket intake. I'm not sure I prefer the styling on the 2-series to the old 1. In fact, I'm pretty sure I prefer the look of the 1-series tbh, and the 1 is slightly smaller. The 228 looks like a nice car though: if I lived somewhere that wasn't driving heaven with tons of fun roads everywhere I would probably take one over an 86. That powertrain will be a much better match for city driving and I'm sure the car will feel nicer inside than our cars (with the possible exception of seats because our seats are absurdly comfortable). I'm sure these will be great cars to pick up a few years down the road when they're going for low twenties. I'm glad BMW is still making a small, RWD, driver-oriented car since their traditional offerings are turning into massive, tacky luxury yachts. The 2-series looks like it will a great sporty DD, whereas our cars are more of a sportscar that you can DD if you care more about driving than you do about interior design and tech-gimmicks. |

haha, was actually considering picking up a 2 series for the next car before I got my hands on a BRZ. Making this an interesting thread to read!
