I don't imagine the STI 6spd will be much heavier than the WRX 6spd (if they are different). There's also a good chance they are continuing to underrate the WRX's power as they've been doing since 2009 (and to a lesser degree in 06 and 07).

The STI 6MT with the difference in hubs, rear end, and axles weighs ~100lbs more than the WRX 5MT and its hardware. I doubt the new WRX 6MT is anything aside from the Legacy 6MT which is just the 5MT case with a 6th driven gear stuffed in.

There's a good chance the WRX isn't as underrated as it used to be: the 08+ EJ255 vs EJ257 have minute differences but are basically the same - meaning the only difference between the old WRX and STI was the driveline and size of the turbo. This time the WRX is down on displacement, but has DI. I doubt they selected a large enough turbo to do real work.

I would probably pick the Golf R over this.

I want to try something new and the Golf R seems perfect.

If the new WRX STi carries over the neolithic EJ257, color me disinterested.

This car was a huge letdown for me. I was expecting too much from the concept STi and was really let down. Way more than from the FR-S concept. It doesn't even look aggressive anymore. It looks like Toyota got their hands on this and gave it Avalon sides.

Same. I can live with everything else, but not the EJ257...not again

The only *logical* explanation for this is they are going to be using a FA20 variant motor, and it wasn't ready to be launched yet.

I was truly disappointed with this as well. A year and a half ago I almost held off on buying a BRZ because I wanted to wait for the new STI, and i'm glad I didn't hold off. Looks like the next gen will be the one to wait for.

Plus I hate how the front bumper sits higher than the sideskirts. I'll be honest, the tracked up STI they used in the video when producing it looks pretty good, but it also has lip kit/other parts on it.

Every year has grown on me since owning my 05, so i'm sure this will too, but Subaru let a lot of people down with the motor. Maybe they are using the WRX as the test mule for that FA20DIT.. lol

I'm sayin =/. Over a decade now, price tag still sitting comfortably at 35-40k; it's inexcusable at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I like the motor... but 11 years...

I'm just curious, has anyone tuned a FA20DIT yet? On the Forester here or the Legacy in JDM land? How much headroom is there really?

I think people are missing the big picture with the STI. Everything is improved except the motor which is the same unit that's been just fine for a long time. Sure some guys had ringland issues but for the most part, it's easy to work on and squeeze out a shitton of HP. People here are shitting all over the EJ257 but these are the same people that would probably give a left nut to have one in their car instead of the FA20. Newer isn't always better unless you are concerned with fuel economy and emissions...in which case, newer is almost always better.

No, just no. I had a 2011 and my ringlands crapped themselves. And to push any type of power on the ej257 you need to build the motor first otherwise it becomes a ticking time bomb.

I put 50k on mine at over 300whp with no issues... Still ran like new when I sold it.

That's bullshit. I had my 08' at 300whp for years with no issues. I know many that did as well. Yes, to push a bigger turbo on pump, you need to drop pistons in. Big deal. Ejs can make ridiculous hp with a little work. This has been proven for years.
