Wait for 2015 motor or buy now?
Hello guys and gals. I got my first FRS mid 2013 and sold it... why, well because I'm car crazy and i change cars almost every year which is a very bad habit. Nonetheless i'm really considering getting another FRS but with the rumors of a new motor coming out for 2015 are holding me back. I don't know if its better to wait for it or just get one of this generation. There may be mild changes to the body of the car and well the motor which has been bored to a 2.5 if I'm not mistaken. The increase in displacement will probably mean a loss in revs, meaning lower redline and i dislike that. The motor will have more torque and power but it still wont be enough for my needs so it'll be boosted regardless. The pros of getting the car now is that there is plenty of aftermarket for the engine, including a vast selection of proven turbo kits and superchargers. What do you guys think. Please!!! lets keep the thread civilized, just opinions or ideas lets now get angry at each other.

If your sources for this information are any of the following, ignore and move on with your life.
Car forums. Car dealers. Friend who knows a friend at Subaru/Toyota corporate. Friend who works at a dealer who knows someone at corporate. Magazines. Google searches. Social media. Unless it's hype generated directly by SOA or TMC (via teasers, etc), it's all rumors and blown way out of proportion. -alex |

Highly doubt that a more powerful version will come out soon, toyota is probably still trying to milk all of our money before they release something new.

If you've had a FRS before and sold it, I wouldn't buy another any time soon unless you plan on changing whatever made you unhappy the first time.

wait... you already had a 2013 FRS and sold it. What makes you think you would like the 2014 any more? It's the same car... there are no major changes. If the car wasn't good enough to keep the first time, I doubt it will be the second time.
With regards to more power in 2015... I doubt it. Follow the money. They are selling these cars like hotcakes, what's in it for them to spend R&D dollars and start messing with things so soon? They are definitely going to ride this out for a couple of more years at least. |

I've only heard rumors about the FR-S Sedan and BRZ Hatback-esqe concepts coming with a 2.5 or a turbo.
I agree with @blunova, If you didn't want a 2013, you won't want a 2014 either. I can't see them making any major changes for at least 2 years, but idk! Nick C.

Look at the last sports car in the fleet, MR2 Spyder. It never got a power increase throughout it's life cycle. I expect FR-S will follow that strategy given that TMS USA is first and foremost a volume car company run by bean counters and it would be cost prohibitive to certify a new engine configuration for what is to them a niche car.
OTOH, I fully expect a TRD version later this year that should be something...if you like yellow and can justify the price. A TRD model would sidestep certification requirements so is the most likely step after Monogram. |
