This is correct. Scion dealers can charge whatever price they want so long as it is clearly displayed in the store and online + all customers pay that same advertised price. If they wanted to they could change the price every day/week/month so longs as they advertised the new price online and in store. They only thing Pure Price prohibits is charging different customers different prices on the same day and Charging a different price than what they have advertised..

I agree it is unlikely you will pay over MSRP, few if any Scion dealers do Market Adjustments above MSRP. However, there is nothing about Scion Pure Pricing that would prevent them from doing so if they wished to.

Maybe we should compile a list of dealerships that do plan to markup so that we can stay away from them. Nobody should be paying more than MSRP.

+1 Costco, NavyFed and AAA have member buying programs which should come in handy.

That would suck. I need people who can't negotiate. They fund my discount.

Um, I'm pretty sure you guys are wrong about the pure pricing policy.

Just to be clear, I asked the sales guy when I put my deposit down with Scion. I asked him "You will not be charging more then the MSRP due to your pure pricing policy correct?" and he agreed. My deposit was placed with the understanding that there was to be no dealer markup added. I personally don't plan on paying the Markup for this car and I plan on expressing this to the dealer if they've been wasting my time while I've been waiting.

That being said, someone explained the pure pricing policy to me like this.

A) Dealership is charging more then the MSRP. Call Toyota and they will get involved.

B) Dealership is charging less then the MSRP. Better hope Toyota doesn't find out!

I think you guys are a little confused on the policy. The policy states that the dealer may sell for less then the MSRP, not more.

EDIT: This is straight from the wiki page about Scions.

"Pure Price" means that the price posted, whether on the vehicle, in an advertisement, or on a menu display board in the dealership, is the price customers will pay."

So whatever they announce the price for, that's what we will pay. I don't see how you guys got somehow confused on this.

Nope, you're confused. Your sale person was either lying, ignorant, or didn't say what you think he did.

From http://www.scion.com/buy/pure_price/

Quote:
PURE PRICE - A DEFINITION
Pure Price means that the price you see posted – in an ad, on the dealer's website, or on a menu display board in the dealership – is the price you will pay. This includes vehicles, accessories, and even finance and insurance products. All our prices are clearly posted.
It says nothing about MSRP. Having said that, I know my dealership won't be marking it up over MSRP, so I will be paying MSRP.

"They"="each dealership individually"; NOT Toyota Motor North America.

In other words, "So whatever [your local dealership] announces the price for, that's what [you] will pay."

The idea is that Scion's customers are afraid of haggling (being inexperienced 20-29 year olds), so Scion's marketing department spun this into "you don't have to haggle, just pay whatever our dealers ask, mmkay?"

If you want to haggle, you are still free to. While the Scion dealership will cry Pure Pricing at first (in an entitled attempt to squeeze you for more cash), if they truly want your business, they will be happy haggle.

Personally, I plan on emailing several dealerships simultaneously, naming my own price, and letting them compete for my business.

Dealerships certainly won't "get in trouble" for moving product, as everyone seems to believe.

Sorry but I disagree again.

If you visit any car on www.scion.com, it lists the MSRP right there in black and white. For example, the iQ is listed as MSRP $15,995.

So if the dealer trys to charge me more then what's listed on the website, its a violation of the pure pricing policy.

Therefore whatever price you see on the website, that's what you should pay at the Dealer. Say we were talking about the iQ instead. Are you trying to tell me that a dealer wants to charge you more for an iQ then what's listed?

This tatic wouldn't work for me in Canada though because I'll need the price to be displayed on the Canadian website.

MSRP = Manufacturers Retail Sell Price. Not recommended price.

It's still a recommendation but even so, its not the definition.
