MotorTrend is saying that Subaru applied what they learned in the FT86 and the $27K car handles almost was well as an Evo X MR which starts at $38K.

It might be worth waiting a few months to at least test drive one once they come out. You will definitely have more legroom and the steering wheel looks like this which may help with your legs:

Having owned a Genesis Coupe they are not bad cars, so you should drive one, but the WRX will definitely be faster and it should handle better.

The EVO X is a great car if you have close to $40K, but that said, Mitsubishi is a dying brand in the US. Resale could be scary down the road.

New Mustang is definitely worth a look as well. If you want power the new EcoBoost and the GT should be very strong for the money.

Good time to be shopping if you can wait 6 months or so.
Totally Agree. WRX is hell of a car for practicality and sporty....just ugly LOLZ. Hell...there is no perfection in this world.

Being a WRX owner is like being a parent who has an ugly kid and doesn't know it or care.

I will say this much, at least it is unique

Yeah ugly has never bothered me with the WRX/STI, Evo, etc. They're turbocharged AWD cars that have roots in rally racing. Nobody buys these kinds of cars for their looks.

If you're not hung up on RWD, I suggest you try a Mini Cooper S. They have an amazing amount of leg and head room for tall people and have a similar fun-to-drive-ness as an FRS/BRZ.

I'm 6'6" and I have no problems with it. You DO have the seat pumped the hole way to the ground, right? I have issue without that. On the Gen Coupe, I would agree, you should test drive one. I was looking at them before I bought my FRS but couldn't find one to test drive. 3 months after I got my FRS the dealer called and said they finally got one (R Spec) and told me to come in and test drive it. I did and was COMPLETELY underwhelmed. Driving off that lot and the 30 minute drive home in my FRS was so ridiculously fun! (Of course I was putting her through her paces for comparison and she easily won) The Gen Coupe feels slow. At least in the FRS, which so many people say is too slow, I FEEL like I'm going fast and it's more fun. The turbo lag on the Gen Coupe was beastly, which I hate, but to each his own. Plus, in all honesty, how often do you run 0-60s with your car or race people on the street? Now how often do you take turns at high speeds with a huge grin on your face?

Moral of the story: Tis better to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow!

This is so ridiculous, but if you scoot your seat closer to the steering wheel it feels like a go-cart.

As soon as I read you first post OP my thought was change the seat. There are some very very comfortable seats out there that can be mounted lower and a few inches further back. Recaro, Bride, Sparco, Momo, the list is pretty big. Find a reputable shop that carries a variety and try them out for comfort. The one piece buckets will be able to be moved back the most, as they are almost always thinner. But there's something to be said about being able to set the angle of the seat back.

There may also be a way to just mod the current seat mounts. It would only be able to go rearward about an inch or two, but that may be enough. Just be sure it's a reputable tech doing it. I've seen seats held in with two bolts before.

Have fun, make your car YOUR car.

Or... if you decide otherwise. Don't get the Hyundai. Sure you'd have more room, but, every time you drove it you'd think "Damn, this doesn't feel right".

Personally I don't see how you guys even fit. I guess I have a long torso, but at 6'2" I might have an inch of head room remaining with the seat at it's lowest. I have a short haircut and my hair brushes the top at certain seat back angles.

I'll second the Focus ST. I had a 2012 Focus before the FR-S and fit great in it. Even the regular model was fun compared to regular compacts (not as fun as the FR-S though) and I'd imagine that the ST trim would bump the fun factor up quite a bit.

*Oh, and new Mustang!

See, I'm taller in the legs, not the torso. Headroom is fine for me!

Some really great suggestions on here… I will definitely look into modding the seat. I just need a couple more inches back/lower and I will be good. I love the car, and I'll love it more when I go FI!

Anybody know of some great shops in the New York/LI area to try some seats out?
