As long as the mesh isn't too tight, airflow shouldn't be impeded too much.

That picture really makes me hate the BRZ bumper. It's seriously not as ugly as that picture makes it out to be though.

I put a gutter guard screen on the backside of my grill. I don't notice any higher temps, and it probably reduces cooling drag. I do find leaves and bugs in it, that I have to brush off on occasion, but nothing of size gets to the rad core.
