Temporary Ways to reduce exhaust noise?

Just like the guy in the video, the car makes a lot more noise during cold starts. Nonetheless, the car still starts up car alarms when I get home.

The silencers do their job but it isn't enough. I'm asking on ways to reduce noise while the car is in the garage, and then I could remove it exiting the parking lot.

While the engine noise is great, and I love my exhaust, nothing really prepared me for this sort of problem (most reviews say it's loud, I just didn´t expect it to be this much)

I don't want the homeowners association to start troubling me about my car noise, particularly when I get home late or wake up extra early.

Are you catless? If so, you may not be able to stop it. In my experience it is more about frequency than amplitude. My WRX sets off cars all the time, even at an idle and it's not even very loud. The glass pack might help a little since it will act KIND OF like a cat (they are both porous media).

Stock exhaust

Sell your N1, reinstall the stock exhaust and spend that money on something else much better for the car you can actually feel or something that actually makes a difference - nice coilovers, wheels/tires, headers, lightweight - pulley driveshaft or flywheel, a short FD.

surprisingly, my car got quieter from 1k ~ 4k RPM going FI/Catless all the way through. Maybe the turbo does muffle the sound a bit.. You can get a hemholtz resonator on the front pipe from Nameless, or like everyone said here, get a quieter exhaust like TRD or Q300. I know a lot were disappointed with the sound though.

I've heard the Nameless exhaust, and the 2.5in was pretty tame.

I am assuming it is extra loud only because he has to park underground and the noise echos louder causing alarms to go off. You should be fine as long as you don't park underground.


I heard the N1 in person before and I didn't think it was that loud. but good luck OP.

I know it's a personal preference.. but invidia's just too loud and too bassy for my taste. I'd spend a little more for Perrin anyday

The car is perfectly fine outside of a closed underground parking.

and to those proposing changing the exhaust as a solution... it's a more extreme solution than what I'd hope for. I would rather try to solve it to keep my N1. on the track it sounds fantastic.

I had to swap out my exhaust. There was no taming down a 3" exhaust with a catless header for the setup I had. You can always sell your previous exhaust to another owner. Many people don't mind a system already broken in and golden just as long as its not damaged.

The size of the mufflers on this car really affect how bassy/droney it is from what I've noticed. The bigger muffler Q300 and Perrin Resonated systems are the best at keeping the drone out and more of the sound out of the back of the car. They are extremely tame as a catback by themselves though. The N1 is very similar to the Greddy Evo3. Those dual canister designs are deep sounding and introduce drone/vibrations in the car.

Well, @OnionTou, have you tried my "cut a glass packed muffler in half" idea .. ??

Seriously, I found out with my miata, that even small glass packed inserts really toned it down.

Heck, you can buy the muffler either to fit over your quieting inserts or inserted inside of the un-muffled exhaust tips.

You could "delux" them with a whole drilled and tapped in the muffler piece (set screw included).

You could finish them off in flat black or silver from a rattle can.

You might even start a whole new fad ....

......named the sophicated "un-fart can".

Did I mention duck tape and baling wire .... oh, sorry .... that was for another idea I had ...... TBA .....

The N1 is stupid loud. I tried putting in the silencers and it made the car quieter than stock.
I love the sound but the drone/vibration is off the charts. If my twin was my DD the N1 would be gone. But since it's my purdy days/ fun car I can live with it.

How do you like yours?
