They should have just made the fender one piece. Non functional elements are stupid.

I was thinking the same. I wonder if it would do any structual damage to the car if you had a portion drilled out.

actually you might be able to pull out the strip in the center. im trying to find a better picture but you can kinda see it here.
 but then again maybe thats just the frame of the car beneath the fender. |

The grill cover probably snaps on to that metal strip.
