Haha just ignore all the arguing over autox/rally/track driving... ANY kind of high performance driving will help with technique and driving skill.

Hmm. No agent. Just through the GEICO customer service line. They even gave me a confirmation # and name, etc., after the third time I explained what it was and asked for confirmation...

After having an email discussion with Gwen at NCRC she told me that we would be responsible for our own tech as outlined here http://www.ncracing.org/docs/carchecklist.pdf

I have my helmet but the one that I am curious about is " 2.5lb fire extinguisher recommended, metal mount bracket" I am not arguing the need or importance of a fire extinguisher but does everyone else have one? And where did you mount it? I honestly hate the A-Pillar mounted bottles because it screams poser and ricer. Any other locations?

So far, it looks like 9 of us will be there for the class. Sounds like it will be a blast. Shall we organize a caravan?

same here... never had one. I only do maybe 3-4 track days a year, and in terms of safety equipment/preparedness my car is basically stock. I think if you plan to do it more often than that, then sure you should think about more safety equipment. The costs will start to add up though, once you're past buying a helmet...

HANS device, racing seats, racing harnesses, Roll cage, fire extinguisher ... once you start down that path though, it starts to look foolish to have bought only one thing and not the others. How much do you value your life?

Not trying to be a smart ass as I do tend to agree but...

Considering how many cars i have seen burn on track and how my car almost got deep fried... I would not think anyone foolish to have a fire extinguisher in their car.

Fire's happen even if your car is new and hasn't been modified. Dry grass + off track excursion.

=)

@sw20kosh for sure, not trying to dismiss a fire extinguisher as an unworthy safety purchase. Just pointing out that if you're going to be concerned about safety, there are a lot of choices and options as to where to put your money... but some of those (like cage, harnesses, HANS) are kind of a slippery slope, once you start down that path you shouldn't do things half-way.

FWIW, there may not be as much risk of dry grass at Thill in Feb...
and I'm still thinking about Feb. 7. I might go, even if just to spectate, as long as I'm still not working by then...
